Quaife Differentials - Birds Auto Offer

Sorry late reply, my other car is a good ol MX5 1.8is mk2. Torsen LSD, brilliant fun in the wet and the control weights and gear change and pedals are the best I've experienced in nearly possibly over 50 cars. But it's not nice on long distances, it's not fun in the dry and correct it doesn't have enough power!
I've removed the Z CDV which has improved the clutch operation and gear change hugely - but what is the recommended gearbox oil change in these to improve the notchy change please?
 
Badbox - I believe the e89 is more complicated to swap diffs - James bird who I spoke to regarding the e86 deal mentioned he could sort something out for a minimum number of 4 confirmed orders though. I hadn't looked much further into it as it doesn't relate to me but can certainly talk to him if you'd like?
 
Well the day has finally arrived - early Christmas present from me to Zebedee! I'm sat in the waiting room at birds whilst the diff is being fitted! :D

Looking forward to the drive home, and getting to know the new character of my cooopeee :D

Well the car was in at 08:30am and was all finished, tested and paid for by 13:00 :D

Thoroughly nice guys at Birds - plenty of coffee and good BMW related reading material in the waiting room, so the wait was a pleasant one!

Birds say the Quaife units don't require any running in, but I plan to drive it fairly gently for a couple of hundred miles before... exploring...!!

I've got a few runs to do in the car over the weekend, so that mileage should quickly clock up - I'll be able to tell you more come Monday :D
 
I've not gone mental and tried it properly yet but there is a noticeable difference in the intrusiveness of the TC on slightly slick roads. I can certainly feel the difference.
 
So the diff has been in for a month...... debated buying it for ages...... so glad I did. Massive improvement. Much more grip but also very playful and fun in the wet with the ESC/TC off.
If you enjoy feeling the rear wheel drive characteristics the diff helps a lot.
 
As above, so so pleased with the diff! The car feels so much more controllable on the throttle, before where having the traction control fully off felt a little scary, it now just feels so predictable. Definitely recommend this to anyone thinking about it, worth it for the grin factor alone!

And NO, despite people's best efforts to persuade me a couple of weeks ago I don't plan to track mine - so I don't really need the diff! :lol:

I've not even got back out on track since fitting the diff, still loving how it drives now though!

But I'd be interested to learn exactly what the Quaife adds to the road driving experience - hopefully we can have a chat next month at Newlands. :thumbsup:
