Quad exhaust..

Hi i have a 53 plate 3.0 and want quad exhaust because they look soooo much better. Do you know of a system i could purchase? and somewhere that will fit it? i have a 1 dodgey hand with no feeling and one with a sliced digit so would rather somewhere else did it. If somebody could show me some photos and where can carry it out and prices etc i would much appreciate it. Thanks

cj10jeeper has done a quad upgrade as I recall. Rather nice write up of it on here. I think it's a muffler with an extra pipe off the side for the other two tips.

Would tell you to do a search, but I can never find the danged threads either.

I believe this is it....

Thank you, WLH!

cj did a full second muffler, etc. Remus and a few others have the one muffler set up but you'd still have to cut the bumper to allow the tips out.

Ah, one of my favourite subjects :D

:!: WARNING: Quad Exhaust Bore

Excellent choice, have done mine and love it! CJ's is how to do the job properly, not sure if you would get someone to do that for you though. I've done the back box and t-pipe option, by Eisenmann. M-Style make one as do Remus and SuperSport - although not sure if the last 2 make them for the Z4. H&S do a lot of custom work so would be worth a call - really like the ones that I've seen / heard on Ms.

The biggest issue was getting the bumper conversion done - I ended up doing mine myself. Just double check what they are doing and that it will include the rolled edge and inner lip. The main concern for a lot of people with the t-pipe system is the un-eveness of steam in the winter... haven't seen mine. Although I have seen a few other cars, Jags and X5s that smoke a lot more on one side than the other.

Here's a couple of dedicated quad threads:
Quad Exhausts

Quad Sports Exhaust Conversion

A general exhausts discussion (Some quad talk): Exhausts....again

Also check out the exhaust link in my signature

This gives you a short summary - photo slide show from the project, with a nice soundtrack :P :

Pawn,

I was thinking of doing mine for a while now. what kind of price are we looking at?

I think i would get mine made by the local custom exhaust garage under strict instructions that it doesnt sound like an asda carpark special

If you were going for a custom setup CJ's would be a better guide... back box (£150 eBay), battery (£100), heat shielding and plate fabrication (£50ish). Buying a t-pipe setup is actually a lot more expensive - although there is room for discount... I think the M-Style system isn't too badly priced, although I've never heard it, or reviews of one.

Technically speaking I'd want CJ's setup... but I can't get away from the sound the Eisenmann makes - I love it! And awesome looking tips too.

Hi guys,

As I sit here in the mountsains in Spain on someone's unsecured network it's nice to see you speak well of my exhaust system....lol

I rarely comment on the project these days for the 'exhaust bore' label referenced above, but will give it a quick shot here.

If you wanted to replicate a set up like I have then I would suggest you are a reasonable engineer else get the cheque book out. Roughly speaking:

£500 relocate battery
£300-£400 new stainless pipework
Say £200 to £300 for a pair of backboxes and £50 decent tips (£900 ///M new but I won min eon ebay new for iirc £21 :) )
Allow £200 to rework the rear bumper and spray it in.
£50 for heat shield etc.
Perhaps £100 for race battery and reworked leads.

Rear diffuser that went for was the most expensive item at £370 ish, but really a separate project.
Realistically you be walking into a £1500 project to hand it over and collect back. I reckon excluding the diffuser I did it for <£500.

The place I used (forget the name right now in Walsall woudl have moved the battery for £500, pipework £300 and sort you own bumper but it still

Of course you can cut some of that out and mix and match diy and pro work, but it's no spuprise most opt for the T pipe across the rear bumper cover option.

As noted above I think technically this is the correct route to go, balances the system, sounds great anf I love the look it has given the zed.

However in response to op's post and for most converters I think I'd go with the T pipe setup given the circumstances.

Yeah,i have looked into this for a while too,and as cj said, his way is technly right, but can be costly, unless(like cj),u are confident of doing alot/all of it diy.

in saying that,an Eissenman system like pawns is aprox £1400!! (plus £30 to fit exhaust, and £100 to prof rework rear bumper)=£1530/APROX
So not alot of total cost difrnce/just more work required for the full "cj" /"oem/m" setup, and its dependant upon how much u can get 2nd hand m exhausts off e-bay??
