PVR Recommendation (no, not him)

There seems to be plenty of A/V equipment experts on here, and I was looking for a recommendation for a Freeview+ PVR pls? (Of course, PVR himself has made searching for such things on this forum practically impossible )

It's intended for my 83 year old mum, who naturally spends the vast majority of her time watching or recording TV. She has no broadband so catch up services are not necessary.

She records a lot of crap all at once, so the more tuners the better. I'd seen a Humax with 3 tuners for £200, but the reviews were kak.

Clearly it needs to be bombproof, because the second it freezes, or otherwise fails to obey instructions it's gonna be my fault.

Not interested in the standard Sky offering? I put that in for my MOL and she operates that like a trooper.

With a combined phone, broadband and TV package it was very reasonable and you get the catchup stuff as well.

And less of the lip :lol:

Cheers, it's a thought, hadn't considered it & I will look into it. I doubt she'd go for it though, she complained about the cost of broadband hence why she doesn't have it. Old people..*rolls eyes*

The broadband is packaged as free with the deal, so she won't even know about that.

I had put a humax in before but it was no good, way too complicated and was just binned.

you thought of a youview box?

Don't have one myself but a few of my mates have em and it seems to have a much better (more simplified) UX compared to most of the freeview offerings and IIRC its a standardised interface so should be pretty much the same no matter what make you get

I bought a Thomson unit as the guide an remote had similar layout to sky+,
Also purchased same unit for my mum, mid seventies an manages ok with it

Mark, is the Thompson unit reliable? Mum just needs something that records ok (i.e. without chopping off the end of programmes) and doesnt' crash or freeze
