I am about to have a look at a few 2004/5 Z4 3.0 roadsters with a view to purchasing one. Are there any known problems / faults I should look for?

Thanks Ian.

Hi and Welcome

No major issues, depends on millage. Make sure its got a FSH and it should be fine. Solid engines.

ciscodisco, welcome to the forum...
As ChillZ4 noted no major issues and the 3.0 engine is well proven... :driving:

Make sure everything works. I know that's kind of obvious, but it's the little things that are easy to forget about.

No problems on my end, though I've only had her for 4k miles at just over 22k now.

Not a lot to look for in terms of faults - but make sure you get the spec you want - there are a lot on the market out there, so you can be fussy - if they matter to you, look for things like the upgraded hi-fi, heated sports seats & xenons - i.e. things that are difficult to retro-fit.

I would suggest to see the maintenance service record on the zed. So u have a good idea of what common, small zed problems has been dealth with or have not been dealt with. Especially with pre-face lift zeds, there are small problems with the convertible top, rear coil springs, random squeaking, window regulator, rain sensor air bubbles to name a few. Browse around the problems forum and you'll see a common trend in all the problems with the zed. Otherwise, transmission and engine are top notch. I would keep an eye on the Miles per gallon and the Average MPH to have an small hint to how the car was driven.

I'd re-iterate the comment about the hood. Make sure that not only is it in good condition, but that it works smoothly and fully up and down. It's an eye watering time and cost to replace broken motors (a known problem) or fabric.

Rest is just normal car buying - panel gaps, paint, everything working, service history, etc.
