Purchasing 3.0 Z4

I am looking to purchase a 2005 Z4 3.0

The one I am looking at has 109k miles and is up for £4500

Is there anything in articular that I should look out for when inspecting this car, other than the issues with water ingress round the roof motors

The car has FSH and nothing appearing on the most recent MOT. Just keen not to get stung by a private seller.

many thanks

Richard

As long as the service history is all there the engine should be fine ( at that price it doesn't matter if it's not all BMW ) - without taking the hood off you won't see if the motor is rusted but as long as it goes up and down easily it should be okay . Certainly would be worth checking the MOT history - you can do this free on the DVLA website - all you need to enter is the registration number and V5 reference ( old log book ) The seller must have a laptop/computer and should have no objection checking it out when you view - if he doesn't want to do this then he may have something to hide :( you need to look at previous advisories and see if they have been fixed . Besides looking for any accident repair evident make sure tyres , brake pads etc still have plenty of life left in them - tyres especially as a new set can cost anything up to a grand.

Hope it all goes well - good luck.

Just make sure it's had a well documented history (rather than taking his word on the FSH)

The m54 engines are pretty much bulletproof so that shouldn't be an issue.

You may find that the suspension, brake lines and bushings may be a little tired and in need of a refresh so that's something to consider.

Hi and welcome. I am sure someone with more knowledge to a 3.0i will be along shortly. However, go over the body work panel by panel, make sure its had no prangs. Tell tail signs are usually overspray, or different shades of colour, check the wheel brands, are they the same all round? Any signs of age on the tyres i.e. cracking, does the car brake evenly when you drive it on a flat road....not sure what the clutch is like on these, but the car should still pull in high gear at low speed....

I hope thats a starter for 10.

Oh yeah, squeeky wipers, zeds suffer from these....
check also the oil temperature....make sure she doesn't overheat into amber(light) whilst idle...

Hi and welcome to the forum Richard  .

Heres a buyers checklist which is worth reading http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281

Hi and welcome!

Swiftly has pointed you to where you need to look - everything and more there!

If the roof motor works smoothly and quickly, then you should be OK,nut they do need checking from time to time - looking at mine tomorow as routine maintenance.

I cannot resist getting in an early request for pics to be posted very soon after the purchase. :D

Good luck :driving:
