Only a week or two back I replaced a leaking rocker gasket for another forum member. It was only done 18 months previously by a garage but was leaking quite badly. We found it had no sealant on the half-moons. You only need a small blob in the corners where the gasket does almost a 90 degree change of direction.Carmarthenshire said:I have read online and on here and noted some debate about the need to use rocker cover sealant either end of the block (on the half circle sections).
Have any of you gone down the route of using sealant and a gasket? Or would a seal that has been correctly torqued down in the recommended sequence suffice?
Fit the three seals into the top cover first. Then put a small blob of sealant at the base of each half moon on the seal. That's all you need.Carmarthenshire said:I will definitely do that then. The kit i have got seems to have the bolt seals. Ans i presume seals for the coil packs.
Silly question, did you put the sealant either side of the seal, a dab on the block and rocker cover with the seal inbetween?
It will be obvious when you look at it. The rubber seal has a sharp change of direction at the base of the half moons. Blob the sealant there.Carmarthenshire said:Good tip. I will give that a go. Thanks![]()
