Purchase with shock ending

I was looking at buying a 2.5/3.0 and started to view cars hoping to keep it £ 4 figures

Car 1 3.0
Nice colour combo - Oyster blue and cream leather. Things did not get off to a good start - there was a ding in the drivers door, the hood would not operate from the fob on battery or the switch inside the car. Badly worn drivers bolster, stone chips. No history since 46K (now on 83K) - "my mate has a garage" - and at that point I bid farewell.

Car 2 2.5
White and red (which I initially ignored but on closer inspection I think it really suits the car). Body work good just a couple of chips, front wheels need a refurb Interior great though plain ali was a bit stark. Drove really well with a smooth engine and great gear change. Not so keen on all4 tyres being ditchfinders. Despite being advertise as having history there was none! The last owner had a garage but he has passed away.

Car 3 3.0
A non starter for me the whole front end had bben repainted according to my Paint thickness tester

Car 4 3.0
First impressions good, wheels in good condition - PS4's all round. Hood operated smoothly on battery. Interior in good conditon, minor wear on the bolster and a nice pattern on the ali to break it up. Early history with BMW then independent and had receipts as well. Drove well (though gear change not quite as good as car 2). It needed a good clean but I actually enjoy that so the deal was done for a 2012 3.0i Manual Highline with Idrive, for just over 4 figures. Drive home was diabolical with dreadful weather and many shunts - 6 hours later I came home to this: (everyone is fine - that's the most important thing)

First, I’m relieved that everyone is okay, second, congratulations on your purchase and we hope to see some pictures posted soon. Third, what did you do? And your partner will probably be getting that new bathroom you’ve been promising.

I think you need to expand further on the fire….

And as someone always says, ah that’ll polish out 😩

Was it this one?

Thanks, we are in an Airbnb for 3 weeks whilst looking for a rental for 6 months. Not many around as it has to be furnished, accept a pet and be within 20 minutes of the hospital (on call). The insurance have been good so far and paid for the Airbnb, food and emergency fund for toiletries, clothes etc

That’s T Tony’s old car

Is it up for sale?
No, I was mistaken.
OP said one of the cars was a white and red 23i and the owner was a mechanic but had died.
So I put 2 and 2 together and made 7. Cos I'm a muppet!

Was going to say I’d be very surprised if his lad sold that…

But good idea all the same

Your car looks like a great buy for just over 4 figures as the 30i seems to be quite rare.

But that's quite a mess you came home to.

I know from my insurance claims background that even after stripping out it takes ages for the smell of smoke to finally clear.

Crucially everyone is OK. Anyway good luck sorting the alternative accommodation and getting a decent outcome to your insurance claim.
