Puncture. Which new rear tyre?

Cleaned ///Molly is morning. Took her for a 'dry drive' and tyre alert light came on. Went straight to nearest garage and drivers side rear tyre was quite low so got myself over to Kwik Fit asap and discovered a dirty great nail embedded in there. Too close to the edge for a fix so its new tyre time.

Issue I have is that all 4 tyres are ok tread wise. I have Contis on the front and Kumho's on the rear. May be my OCD talking but I dont really want mismatched tyres on the rear so am thinking of changing both at the same time. Tyre sizes are 255/40ZR 18 (99Y) and according to BlackCircles.com I have the following choices (includes fitting).

Conti Sport Contact 2 - £222.71
Pirelli PZero Rosso - £221.41
Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico - £221.41
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx A RHD - £206.39
Falken FK-452 - £173.52

All are Y rated tyres. On previous cars I've bought Michelin Pilot Sport 2 or Goodyear Eagle F1's but they're not showing on the site. Anyone recommend any other tyre sites (tried Camskill). Also need them fitted or with delivery on weekends as I cant be at home during weekdays.

Anybody with experience of the above tyres too? Would you change both at the same time rather than mismatching?

I would change both at the same time and love my Pirelli- Pzero Rosso's!
Good grip/ good wear and a nice ride on 108's.

Note to self really, just to say how frustrated I am as havent been able to drive the car since I found the puncture. Booked in for new tyre two weeks ago but had to change because of the Olympics (roads closed etc). In retrospect it would have been fine getting to the tyre place but at the time it seemed like it was going to be way worse. Booked in for next Saturday so thats a whole nother week of great weather I'm going to miss :headbang:

I've only managed to do about 2,000 miles since you had that puncture :poke:

My 210 mile commute to/from London has come down to less than 3 hours since everyone decided to leave London for August

The Welsh roads have been quite quiet too :driving:

Has anyone tried the Michelin PS3 Pilot Sport 3 ?
I didn't bother as Michelin told me it was a replacement for the Exalto tyre, rather than a replacement for the PS2.

It's just the usual confuse-the-customer-by-switching-naming-conventions.

210 mile commute...that's not daily is it?

I have the Pirelli PZero Rosso (19") tyres on mine, have done for 2 years now. Fantastic levels of grip, very nice tyres, well recommended

Depends on the client. Sometimes it's a 600 mile round trip for 2-8 hours at the office (charged by the day of course) going from Liverpool to London to Barnard Castle and back to Liverpool.

Although my regular weekly commute is a 210 mile trip to London on a Tuesday (work from home Monday) and back up to Liverpool on Thursday (work from home Friday).

I sometimes wish my commute was a bit longer on better roads, average speed cameras for 90% of my journey ruin any chance of fun lol

Most of mine is dual-carriageway and motorway, and it's only the weekends where I get to drive 'fun' roads.

Although I do sometimes divert into Wales on the M54 to avoid traffic on the M6.

markeg, What kind of wear are you getting? Just shopping for rears now before they go illegal. I've just ordered 4x Hankook for the S-Max which seem to be getting good reviews and it's hardly a performance car. 4x Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 235/45 R18 Y (98) were just short of £640 fully fitted (Blackcircles)

Also from Blackcircles I'm getting the following prices for 265/30 ZR19: Tyrereviews overall ratings and link in percentage next to the price

Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 - £342.89 83%
Pirelli P Zero - £327.58 76%
Bridgestone Potenza S001 - £313.50 77%
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 - £303.36 http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-Asymmetric-2.htm94%
Pirelli P Zero Rosso - £271.42 71%
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT - £240.79 72%
Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 - £220.26 http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Hankook/Ventus-V12-evo-k110.htm81%
Falken FK-452 - £182.47 http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Falken/FK452.htm75%

452's seem to get good feedback on here, and a good deal cheaper. Hankook getting 5* on the Blackcircles website and not bad on tyre reviews. I've had Eagles on performance cars before and quite liked them.

Vredstein not an option from Blackcircles and Camskills don't offer a fully fitted price. I can't be arsed with buying and shipping tyres then finding someone to fit them when Blackcircles have a partner almost on my doorstep.

Anyone else tried Hankooks?

Don't forget that all these reviews are completely subjective.

So someone expecting a budget tyre to be only average will mark it higher when it outperforms their expectations. On the other hand, someone who's bought a max performance tyre may mark it lower than the budget tyre when it's not as good as their expectations, despite it still being better than the budget one in all conditions/tests.

e.g. people marking a Supersport as 5.0 in the snow, when it's more like a 2.0 - as they were expecting it to be useless.

I get that and all reviews are subjective just as they are on here. The benefit of this forum, is that at least the majority of feedback is based on a Z4 so at least more relevant

Stuart - they've been on the car for approx 2 years. In that time I've done around 20k miles - I reckon there's around another 5k miles in the rears, but as they're slightly worn on the inside (still well within legal limits) I may change them earlier (the car was 4-wheel aligned after getting the tyres fitted). I *may* have got more miles out of them if I hadn't taken them on a track though  - but well worth the experience.... :D

TBH - Will probably go with the Rossos again...
