Pulling to the right

Hi Guys,

Need some opinions \ ideas

Took my car to BMW to have the plastic trim on the M MFSW replaced.

Since getting it back, if I hold the wheel straight, the car veers to the right. If I let the steering wheel rest naturally with the car going in a straight line, then the steering wheel is skewered - with the left hand grip roughly 2 inches below where it should be.

If you look at the wheels when the steering wheel is straight then you can see them pointing slightly to the right.

It is as if the steering wheel hasn’t been put on straight – is this possible? Or does it only go on one way?

BMW say it can only go back on one way.

BMW seem to think it’s my tracking, however it certainly wasn’t me who put it out as it started pulling right the first time I got back in it.

Any ideas as to what it might be? Or opinions on what BMW are saying?

Exactly what I think, but BMW are insisting it cannot be put on wrong, can only go back on one way

It is true that it only fits on one way. Either it goes on or it doesn't quite simply due to the way the slot lines up... However - I replaced mine a while back and had the exact same issue as you i.e. when the wheels were straight the steering wheel was about 15 degrees to the right. I needed 4 wheel geo done anyway so had that done and that corrected it. I can only assume there is some tolerance or maybe a manufacturing issue with some wheels.

Interesting, thanks for this, they’re having the car back and I will get them to check the geo
