Puddle in the boot

With the lovely weather we’ve had this weekend I’ve noticed an issue with the zed. The drivers side cubby hole in the boot is soaked. I can’t figure out where this is coming from. I checked the roof drain plugs when I rebuilt the car a month ago.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Are you parked on a hill? Mine did the same, but It had to be parked facing up hill for it to happen.
I did a lot of looking, and struggled to fine the route in. Admitidly mine was on the passenger side, I had the liner out along with most other boot items. But I have never found the source, I just reverse up my drive now, and problem solved.

It’s park facing down a very small incline so sounds the opposite of your problem. Very odd. When you say check behind the wheel. That would suggest this is coming in whilst driving?

I'm not sure if this is the case on pre-FL, but for my 2006 car the top nut (item 51416989691) holding the colour-coded plastic cover above the rear light was letting water in.

Item 8 on https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BU32-EUR-03-2006-E85-BMW-Z4_25si&diagId=51_4863

Very similar symptoms, best to line that part of boot with paper towels to help pinpoint the location of the drip.

Taken from a post I made last year:

Also replaced a screw clip under the nearside rear light cover. Water was entering the boot because the rubber skirt on the clip had disintegrated. A bag of new clips arrived today so in went a new one with a smearing of grease underneath for extra anti-water power.

Well, Digeridoo Fidget Magoo Quibble and Wibble Jones, if you search for "grease" and put my username down as the author, it pops up in there somewhere. I don't think I included any more detail than I pasted above, but knock yourself out

Any progress? Although after replacing the plug it possibly improved, I still seem to have a leak somewhere on driver side :(

EDIT: It was the boot vent, possibly the nut was just a red herring or they both leaked.

sooooooooooo funny

Mine is leaking too. Dripping condensation on the boot lid, battery bay wet. I've noticed the third brake light is cracked in a couple of places and am hoping it's related to that alone.

Ordered a new light assembly together with the lower tension mounting springs, can't find the newly recommended washers/nuts as of yet.

Hi guys - suffering a similar leak from the clips around the rear lights.
Does anyone have the part numbers and or a good source in the UK?

Screw - Nut - gasket required (All x 2 to re-do both sides)

Thanks.
