Went past Fawdingtons BMW in Newcastle today while the other half was having her hair done. Saw two nice Roadsters on the pitch so I went inside.

A 2.0 in black... not interested. An 08 plate 2.5 in black with loads of extra's but tan leather. Awful combination IMO.

Went inside where a there was a coupe in dark green for 18k. It was desperate for a clay bar and polish, 108's that had been half refurbed but still corroded on the inners. Painted calipers (badly done including the back of the pads) could have looked a million dollars if it had been prepped well.

Spoke to the salesman who talked generally about the E85 with me for a few minutes (until he realised I wasnt buying) and then ushered me towards a brand new s drive in white with red leather. A Stunning car . I said I still think I prefer the E85 as the new one hasnt had time to grow on me yet..... His response..... 'Well, they were alright in thier day...... but they're an old car now'

Wondering how they are justifying charging 18K for an 'OLD CAR'
 
Funny enough I went to the 'Ultimate BMW Drive Weekend', which was actually the same as any other day in the showroom. :rofl:

Took one look at mine and decided it was an ///M and I would need the new 35i and the only possible step for what was now a 'dated car' Still I took the 35 out and was impressed, but it's a shame as I actually went to test a 1 series with my daughter who on realising they wanted £22k for a 2.0 diesel, decided a Z4 3.0Si coupe at £21k or a 2.0 at £14k looked like way better deals.

Switched salesmen who said the older Zed was an amazing motor and ideal for her and in his words the new model had moved too far up the price range and she could get whatever she needed for £20k or less.... :rofl: :rofl:
 
Yes, that 'drive a car day' thing was on at Fawdingtons when I was there. Must have had easier pickings than me so fobbed me off. Suppose it depends on the salesperson really. Still, if some of them see the E85 as being past it, that's got to hurt resales in some way I would have thought.
 
My dealer does not even try to talk me in the new one, they know how fussy I am and that there is no M level in the new one (yet).

They also know to call me when they do release an M ...

Depending on price and discount levels, yes. I already pay the maxium road tax so a nice V8 in the Z would not cost more.
 
Forgot to say the dealer tried to entice me with not only the Z35i then the 35iS but news of the newly arriving 'Z4M Sport'. It's in the brochure as such and only when really pushed would they admit it was not really an ///M but a body kit :roll:

It's in the spring/summer magazine as m sport add ons for all cars. See my thread in the e89 forum :D

In the current catalogue it has it's own 2 page spread headed as 'The BMW Z4M sports models' Also in the April price list it's listed as separate models available in 23i 30i and 3.5i format. Of course all a marketing trick.

It's the equivalent to how the 3 and 5 series have the M sport option no? not really a trick?
 
I think this is a pure marketing trick.
The last Z4M was a product of the motorsport division and had significant performance items from engine to axle, brakes, etc. built in and was advertised in it's own separate brochure, dealers network, etc.. The current model is just bodykit on a standard car.

I see it as a shallow way to gain more sales from the ///M heritage - why am I wrong?
 
Badges and plastic don't make an M, and certainly won't tempt me from a sports car into a cruiser.
