Proximity sensors?

Don't we have proximity sensors on the Z4? Or were they not introduced till after 03 sometime? I put my car close to a wall both while in reverse and in first gear, and nary a beep. Was it an option? Did I miss a memo?

It's not difficult to see them if you have them - 4 sensors clearly showing on the rear bumper cover. Seen here on my '03:

You can retrofit rear and even get a retrofit front number plate holder that incorporates 4 sensors:

I only opted not to fit this as I've manufactured my own smaller number plate mounting for the front ( and learnt the nose is 2' longer that I think it is... :) :) )

fire-n-ice It's something I had for the first time on an X5 and cannot believe how useful the system is on a big truck (big on UK city roads), especially as I always reverse park it. Makes me lazy though as I end up relying on it rather than looking properly and it is in theory possible for it to miss an object, not that it ever has

On the Zed - yes - they are useful, but given the rear is so close they are 'nice to have' category items, but I'd not pay for them. Something on the front spoiler to tell me I'm 6" off the kerb would be better before one day I do touch it...

I've had a few close calls with parking too close to the concrete blocks, etc. I'm talking millimetres close. :o

PDC is not available at all as an option here. I dunno why, since these cars are made here in the US. They really should give us that option. To this date I know of only one person who was able to convince BMWNA to put PDC in their Zed. Took them 4 weeks to approve it, he said.
