Proud new owner! Have some questions

It won't pass an MOT with the cats gutted but the good news is that if you don't have any cat related error lights then it most likely already has a remap installed.

Whistling noise is probably the turbos. If you have no mufflers or cats then you'll hear them.

Did you do the roof wrap yourself? More pics of that would be nice :)
What are the wheel specs?

The car is stunning

There are no CELs on the dash. There was a ECM code when we scanned it. Said 375C DME.

Is it fine to run these cars without cats? My other car is an RX7 and if you take the cat off that, it'll increase the boost. Will running with no cats do any harm to this car? I don't mind failing the MOT lol.

Thanks! I wanted to wrap the roof myself. I have wrapped the roof of my old E39 and it was easy. But I was worried about the complex shape of this roof, so I got it done by a professional. Didn't cost me much though. Like $50.

I don't have a lot of pics. I'll take some of the roof next time. Here are some pics I have on my phone.

I am not sure about the wheel specs. I was hoping you guys could tell me what style they are lol. They're 225/40 R18 at the front and 265/35 R18 at the rear though.

My tuning guys said it wasn’t an issue from a possible engine damage perspective...others may have other views

Removing the cats is beneficial to the engine. It's a bit of a myth that an engine needs back pressure. The biggest benefit is that your turbos will last longer and spool faster.

The downside is that you'll hear more noise from the engine, the N20 engine isn't something you want to amplify, with mufflers removed and no cats it'll sound like a farty chav mobile.

That's great! I have nothing to worry then.

The car doesn't have mufflers. I checked when it was on a ramp. It's just a straight pipe there. It pops and crackles. I'm assuming the pops and crackles are due to the cats being gutted. It still has the stock resonators though. That's keeping the sound in check.

You're right about how bad this engine sounds. I know 4 cylinders sound bad, but this sounds like a diesel! It's so rattly. I've noticed that it's extra rattly in the morning, and it quiets down when it warms up. Is that normal?

I'd want to get the mufflers fitted again, they should help mute the rattly engine sound without any reduction in performance.

The only real cure for the noise is getting a 6 cylinder

Haha I wish. There aren't a lot of 6 cylinder Z4s where I live.

The rattly sound is coming from the engine though. Not the exhaust. I was a bit concerned, but I don't know much about the N20 so I thought it's normal

Its vacuum pump, its mechanically driven and provides brake servo vacuum and if you had a normal exhaust vacuum for the exhaust valve..

They all sound rattly on start up..most unbecoming..only know of one that has failed (so far)..

Due to the inlet design the engine itself can't generate enough reliable vacuum, hence the bolt on affair!
