Hi,

I just signed up as I've been have a bit of a trawl over the forum looking up information regarding insurance for Z4s.

I currently drive a BMW 530d which i've had for 2.5years and also had an E36 325d in the past, I keep coming back to BMW, seems to be the car that i'm always happiest with. I also own a 5.7 V8 Pontiac Trans Am which is sold pending collection, childhood fantasy fullfilled but not really that great to drive in reality, just bastard quick in a straight line.

Anyway once the Pontiac is gone the plan is to sell the BMW too and buy an 03/4 Z4 3.0 litre. On paper it looks more than quick enough and fuel economy seems pretty good on a run which is something I have to consider and the thought of taking a 2 seat convertible over to Europe next year is seeming very appealing. I was thiknking about a 645ci but didn't think it'd be anything like as much fun, plus it's quite a bit pricier.

My problem this year appears to be insurance though  I think it's possibly down to the fact I don't like being take for a mug, insurance has historically always been around £400tpft for me on my 530 but this renewal due January it's coming in at a minimum of £750! Comp is £1100 which is just insane. Curiously the Z4 is only £100 more expensive so it's not really the car that is the issue but it means i'm looking at £1200 fully comp and it has to be comp on a £7000 car. I'm 27, been driving for 7 years and have 7 years No Claims, 8 years No Claims on a motorbike too and no negative history at all with an average/good postcode risk. These prices seem nuts to me, are there any smaller independant insurers that people are using in my age group to insure their Z4? I'm not talking about the big ones like Admiral and Swift etc as they're all pricey, I've seen it's worth giving Chris Knott a ring but anyone else?

Long first post :?

Hi just go to the Forum click on General Z4 discusion ( first item in topics) Then click on cheapest insurance thread (UK) second down.
You fil find lots of good information in that topic.

I got my Z4 at 23, and costs me £700ish to insure with admiral.

Im in a very good postcode for insurance, i think you must be in a not so good one!

Welcome!

I'll be giving Chris Knotts a ring in the new year. They couldnt beat my insurance quote last year (from swift) but this year that has really shot up so i'll see what they can do!

This is why i hate insurance... My parents are in a good post code too and even if i get quotes at their address my insurance is close to 1k (up £250 from last year) and i'm 29 with full no claims, no points etc.

When i was 23 driving my Golf GTi i was paying nearly 2k.. how can you get insurance so cheap

Hello

Admiral were the best deal I could find this year, worth shopping around and if you get a quote online, phone the company with the ref number, I got over £50 0ff the "merekat" price doing it that way

What engine is yours though? If I went for a smaller one it would come down a few hundred but I don't want smaller than the 3.0.

My postcode in the category listings of A-F (A being best) has always been C so fairly reasonable, it's a suburb of Birmingham and Dudley, all I can think is they may have recently reclassified postcodes making mine worse. If I run the quote at my old "A" postcode area in sussex it comes out half the price at £600 comp
