"proper" Bi-Xenon upgrade...

The company referenced in your first post seem to have quite a bit of experience in retrofitting bi-xenon lights to cars,
since they have kits available for the E46, it shouldn't be too difficult for them to knock out something for the Z4?

Did somebody say group buy? :poke:

Yes - they would be. 4 nuts on long threaded studs is all that needs swapping on a physical side.

You'd have to work out the appropriate wiring as halogen are inside and xenon have the ballast underneath. I guess you could rig up a new loom and base it around an aftermarket HID kit and sort out if you need ignitors or some other way to lock the new xenon bulbs in

The bracket that holds the halogen H7 bulb holds the xenon bulb in too you dont need to change it. On the bulb connection inside the headlamp theres a smalll black plastic cube box with two pins on it with the bulb wiring. Just take the two wires off and connect the two wires from the one side of your HID wiring kit. It couldnt be any more simpler thats how my aftermarket xenon HID is set up

I believe DOT is the step up of beam, ECE is the 'kick up' of beam. I think either will pass a UK MOT, the handedness is obviously different for LHD/RHD.

*all of the above could be tosh though*

Yes, DOT & ECE are both fine for UK, it's the side of the "kick" that is the problem. However, It "looks" like it's possible to mod these for RHD..

Failing that, I may take a punt on something like this; https://www.retrofitlab.com/en/mini-d2s-bi-xenon-projectors-30-1.html which is definitely available for RHD cars.

Ok, as I was struggling to find direct replacement projectors in RHD, I decided to try upgrading the 35w HID's I had retrofitted to 55w ones..

WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Much more light on the road, and as I modded the base to allow me to fit the burners "upside down" I no longer have the annoying line from the wire on them.. Highly recommended as a mod, although first step has to be cleaning the actual glass lens inside the headlight, as this made a massive difference, even with the halogen H7's.

Very happy now, so much so that I've ordered another pair for the main beams :)

This is the kit I used, delivered in 2 days, and importantly, the lamps have metal bases rather than plastic. I went for H7 5000k, nice and white with a tint of blue, but not over the top like 6000k.
