I’ve posted a few pics on here of a family members workshop & various cars recently, he’s got a new project on the go now-an mgf 160bhp k series engine in a mini metro :P

Spent a bit of time this weekend reading about k series. Never got what the fuss was about - seems it has its own cult following based on the fact that it would have been a legendary piece of engineering, had it not had so many design smells that made it unreliable. As it stands, it’s legendary as much for its flaws as it is for being very light and powerful for its time.

Didn’t the K series use to pop their head gaskets as frequently as druggies popped smarties...? Or am I thinking of something else..?

Yes they did. I have one and it went at 25000 miles. One they was re done properly by an good indy garage with the new updated gaskets they was ok after that.

It was the plastic dowel that did not hold the head in place as it should have done that was part of the head gasket problem

My first car was a 1.3 Metro. Pimped with blacked out windows and alloys and extra speakers on the back shelf!

I looked like a tw@t back then as well

They fitted the K to quite a few vehicles, a bit like the Stag engine when it first came out though, in that it wasn't fully tested before being released to the world.
Now both engines are understood and well catered for.
Should go like hot snot though Rob :)

I would love an original mini with the Honda 1.6 Vti Vtec engine conversion.... very quick and one of the most reliable engines ever made
