Project Spa - baton passed on. Keep reading

For those of you who were following this thread, here is a quick update on the car as it sits in Garage Bavarian in Frome, Somerset. They have been great! The work is yet to be completed, but this is what they have done so far:

Timing check - all ok
Replaced PCV to cure 'hunting' and oil leak
Replaced cam position sensors for genuine parts to cure VANOS error code (serves me right for trying to get it done on a budget last time) - NOW ERROR CODE FREE! :topicclosed:
Replaced front lower control arms due to excessive play
Re-gassed aircon
Handbrake adjusted as over tightened

Outstanding work:
Replace Eccentric Cam Sensor with genuine BMW part as eccentric shaft not adjusting and car feels flat (according to the garage)

Total cost will be £1,500 for this lump of work, but I wanted to get it all sorted before putting it up for sale, sadly.

Picking the car up next week and will refit the 108s and get it all cleaned up and advertised on the forum. Keep your eyes peeled!

Replied on your other thread: the eccentric cam servo was not changed, so maybe get them to prove that is ok before spending on another new sensor.

That's another big outlay you've had, but knowing more or less where your total is, and therefore what you hope to recoup, I still think someone is going to get a decent car, with not much left to worry about.

Anything to replace it with or have you been threatened with castration?

:D I bought a 911 a couple of months ago and have been neglecting the Z. Thinking of getting a track car for a bit of fun. Maybe.

Thanks Martin - couldn't have done it without you! :D

After many weeks (and nearly £2k poorer) I have finally got Project Spa back, error free and running like a dream! The boys at Garage Bavarian were very persistent, working their way through the possible issues (including replacing cam position sensors and eccentric cam sensors for OEM), but the cause seemed to be low oil pressure due to a damaged oil filter basket. That was replaced, oil was flushed and oil pressure was bumped up. Hey presto, no VANOS error codes! Drove it for an hour to make sure all was ok and it us running better than ever. Checked the code reader a few times and all is clear. Result! 108s are now back on, car is cleaned and I will get it up for sale in the coming days.

Expensive but worth it - I didn’t want to sell it knowing there were still issues with this.

Hi all. Not sure if you have seen my advert selling Project Spa, but I am looking for some feedback please. Do you think I am asking too much? If so, what would be a fair price in your opinion? I am trying to recover some (not all) of the money spent on it, but am I being over optimistic?

I said I wouldn't comment due to it being perceived as bias but........................
Look past the mileage and take in what has been done engine-wise on this car.
Don't buy it with one eye on resale value, buy it to use and enjoy.
If it had been an auto I would have had it back in a heartbeat as an upgrade for my good lady's pre-facelift 2.5i auto.

After spending a few hours sorting out the MOT advisories ready to hand over to Chris, I am sad to say I am no longer a Z4 owner. It has been an absolute blast and Project Spa made me fall in love with driving again, so much so I sold a Tesla and bought a manual 911 :driving:

I hope Chris enjoys it as much as I have. Keep us posted Chris!
