Project - Low mileage Si

True-Blue

So picked up my latest Z4, a very low mileage Ex-demonstrator +2 private owner car, from Wales a week ago today and my previous Mint E85 Si went to its new home last Thursday.

Thought I’d stick it in for an early MOT to see if there were any major issues I’d not spotted, bearing in mind the car has only done 29,200 miles and every MOT bar one has been clean. Previously failed on headlight washers being inoperative.

The Good news...

Headlight washers disabled and not mentioned... per the 2018 MOT changes.

Not so good news....

Advisory on worn front control arm bushes... not a big surprise I suppose as the car is on the originals.
Advisory on one rear brake disk pitted or scored - sort of expected this to be honest.

Fail - Broken rear coil spring - I should probably have realised this would happen as it’s inevitable on these and it wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the previous MOT history

Weirdly, you can’t tell from driving it!

So, it’s decision time.... do I commit to this car now and throw on new control arms and a Bilstein B12 kit (Or maybe B4’s & Eibach pro springs) or do I just replace the rear springs.... decisions, decisions.

I’m going to do all the disks and pads as well, just for completeness.

Hi Martin, i think you know the answer to this question, you said it yourself...'for completeness'. Just like a breakfast, its got to be the full monty surely. Although just like a big brekkie you might regret it and wish you'd gone for the melon!! Have you posted a pic yet? I might have missed it...
Best, Paul.

It’s more whether I go B4’s and Eibachs or all out B12 pro kit I think.... 95% sure I’m going to spend on this one and keep it

bar a few jobs that you need to do the car sounds like a keeper, and the base for any upgrades you want to make - was it from a forum member Martin?

No, it was advertised on EBay and on Gumtree, not sure if it ever made it onto Autotrader.

The asking price would have put most casual Z4 buyers off, and the location didn’t help either ....but I travelled To view (on a bit of a whim really as my previous car was superb) and didn’t pay asking price

I’m kind of thinking that changing the shocks is probably a wise idea if I’m going for a complete spring change, because they’re still 14 years old, even if they have done under 30k Miles.

I've got the B12 kit on my Alpina and its a fantastic set up. Slightly lower than standard but only by about 15-20mm and it goes round corners like its on rails.

Hi Alan,

Yes this is currently favourite, had it on my Grey 3.0i

I’m just trying to decide how much time (&energy) I’ve got to fit it all myself, or whether to pay my local garage around the corner to do it :scratchhead:

I'd go for the B12 kit.
For the price you pay for all 4 corners I pay more for 1 shock and spring on my bike.

The fact you also know that the shocks are fresh and will last makes ot a no brainer

Better control makes more difference than more power all day.

Well, after a lot of deliberation, I’ve made a decision on the suspension..

I’ve popped in a standard MSport spring to replace the broken one for now, to get the car through the MOT... but have also ordered the B12 Pro Kit
