Well..... Brad had a dream to build an outrageously styled individual show car from a reasonable looking 2.0, he called it Marmite for a reason and it was a real love it or hate it talking point on the forum. Some said it was a wicked waste of a decent car, others (like me) said they hated the idea but it was Brad's dream project and money so do it (I love freak shows), others said it sounded OK.
Early days Brad reported a break-in where some of his styling goodies and parts were stolen and wasn't insured. Someone suggested that forum members might make a donation and quite a few of us chipped a few quid in to get it going again. Brad promised to get the project finished and bring it to a meet with the donors forum names listed under the bonnet.
The project stumbled on for a bit and was quite honestly a steaming pile of plastic padding daubed over a botched framework of hacked and tac-welded bean tins.... At best the styling was obviously going to be challenging and be almost undrivable, but may just make a freaky show car if the finish could be raised and a flawless paint finish applied, which is far from cheap!
Predictably the project faded and died, some people felt let down, the doubters stuck the boot in and there were even doubts raised about the reported burglary. Brad did try to flog the abortion and was bid-up to a crazy £5k raising some eyebrows and muttering about shill bidding when the sale fell through. Now it's up without reserve.
Some donors suggest money should be returned once it's sold (not me), I think the project brought out the best and worst of the forum, been hugely entertaining to read and proved doubter right so has succeeded as a true Marmite project. 8)

This project was slightly before my time here so only caught the end. From what I saw I liked the idea, yes some of the styling is outrageous.... But that's what makes car standout the most at shows etc which is what this was aimed at... It's a shame it never got finished for whatever reason. Wonder what the new owner has planned for it (finish using existing style ideas or complete rip down and start again.... I assume it's impossible to return to standard?)

Any bets on seeing it back on Ebay very soon, rejected by the buyer as not as described?
I hope not and like 85genius, better the new owner signs up here.

It could be saved but it requires all new panels. Provided it was about £1k it could be done

Ah lot of new panels... but still. I think the people who donated knew what they were getting into. Bust or fail.

As for the drive didn't Brad get it weighed and it was marginally lighter? Can't see how with the all the additional bits.

The styling wasn't for me but I couldn't really get a handle on the finished vision. The nose especially. But it would be nice to see it finished

Rumour has it,that the BBC were bidding on it to use for the new series of Top Gear.

But the new Presenters said they wouldn't be seen dead in it !

Did you used to have a z4, on Z4 forum? There was a user there with project marmite by a similar name!

Unbelievable.!!! Wonder what hell he's going to inflict on that poor TT.

No doubt JE will be turning up on some other forum soon pretending not to be an idiot.

Wonder if El Taco will join the Audi forum and continue his hate campaign....

It'd be nice if this Brad guy has made a decent donation to this forum from the 'tidy profit' selling project filler after accepting member donations after a 'break in', then going silent for months last year, maybe he has, somehow doubt anyone needs to hold their breath though....

Tidy profit? BS.

£3k sale price
£1k 'donation' from us fine fellows less...

£300 eBay fees
£1k min in parts (and no charge for any labour)
£1k wheels
£2k car (assuming it was a cat D and a wreck, which is the only way it could be £2k)

I make that a £300 loss, but given the car was probably bearer £5k than £2k, I'm being kind, so I call BS.

Either way, given we could have made our donation the running of this forum rather than Brads junk, I hope he does the decent thing and gives some of his 'tidy profit' towards this forum.

Most things one can inflict on a TT will still be an improvement imho... :poke:

But Im sure he'll give that theory a thorough test
