Project Jigsaw- complete!

Better already!
Did you get the aircon pipes off the compressor?
You'll be cursing refitting that front end if they turn out to be stuck!

Loosened off (like all the other bolts)

Is this someone else’s failed project that everything has been removed?

The guy was a very gifted creator. He had scratch built some interesting cars using as example an E30 3 series

This one was destined for similar but I think age caught up with him

I know! It’s been too long

This week has been busier than usual interspersed with rubbish weather: so really only today saw some solid action

Nonetheless some pics and a list of what’s been done.

With Steve’s help today too- thanks bud!

I’m now just waiting for some missing parts (thanks Barry!) which come ahead of next weekend- and I can’t do much until for example I get the carpets

Headlines- engine bay back together and all ancillaries back on
Major panels back on
All looms placed and most things reconnected
Doors put back together

It’s a great car- I’m really pleased with the general state of it

The amount of boxes have gone down and the nuts and bolts pile is smaller!

Above all- it’s bl00dy good fun. I recommend it for anyone who likes puzzles.

Another ‘win’ is that I’ve found the car is fitted with the BMW genuine retrofit DAB radio too

Nice work mate.
The big bits are going back and it's looking pretty good.
Looking forward to the electrical part of the job? I suspect that may be more of a challenge.

Well so far so good… I guess the ones to be wary of are abs and airbag gremlins

Won’t be long and we will see!

Credit also to Steve who picked up two lower splash guards from David Jackson which were a little worse for wear (I just needed something in the void to keep everything in the right locations- and he spent ages aralditing them together for me

Tough as old boots now they will be all that’s left after the apocalypse- two splash guards and cockroaches

I know a man who can sort those 😎

Isn’t it annoying when work gets in the way of fun

Still the sun was shining in Madrid so every cloud etc…

This morning I met Barry for a car load of swag that will get bolted on this weekend if it holds off raining… new carpet and boot furniture.

I’m hoping to get the majority of the internals refitted and roof on to make it water tight this weekend, if I then have time it’s heat shields and exhaust on too

I did get a few minutes to repair and recolour the seats though- they were filthy!

Cheers

Ah forgot to say also there is a set of 19” csl reps appearing this weekend so the 294s can disappear

Are you doing stuff like brake pipes etc that you can't easily get at once the exhaust is back on?

They are in good order thankfully having been replaced a while back

They will be getting an obligatory wire brush and greasing still

The leather on those are so much better than the standard leather. Also the Imola red looks better than the dream red.

It's good to see it starting to look like a Z4 again, and I love the Bi-Colour seats.

Lots of fun today

I think essentially the interior is done (back together anyway) and the roof is on. I’ve not put the seats back in yet as I still need room to do a few more bits inside.

All the boot areas sorted too- the only dilemma I have is the carpet Barry gave me was a standard car and the project car has Bluetooth which needs the humped bit. Will have a think as to how I square that circle

Plan:

1. Sort bolts ✅
2. Exhaust on
3. Roof on and watertight- boot area sort ✅
4. Front end on with wings and liners
5. Rear on and sides
6. Interior including airbags ✅
7. Seats sort ✅
8. Engine recommission
9. Brakes and suspension recommission inc handbrake and bleed. Rear shocks. ABS full bleed and clutch
10. Electrical sort
11. Test
12. Service
13. All bolts tighten
14. Wheels swap
15. Mot
16. Clean/clay bar
