Project Eight-9

My old DSB after a couple of days of paint correction.
Looks very similar to San Marino in that light. DSB, like many metallic colours, looks fantastic in bright sunshine when polished, but looks a little 'flat' all other times IMHO. I'm sure Martin (Mr detailing) will make it shine, though. :thumbsup:

Completed another couple of hours on the bonnet this evening, it’s coming along nicely but it’s slow going as I’m using a FLEX 4’’ 12mm long throw polisher.

It’s a quality bit of kit, doesn’t stall much at all and is great for all the curves. It has powerful cut, using FLEX’ own pads, but 4’’ pads are quite small for a panel the size of an E89 bonnet!

Not finished completely, but have cut the entire bonnet once and now starting to refine. Gone from this;

Need to do some more refining yet, and it’s hard to tell from these pic’s, but the metal flake in the paint is really stating to pop nicely. Really like the way the colour is coming out 8)

Great work. What did the previous owner wash it with, a scouring pad wrapped round a broken brick!

I know right, meticulously maintained mechanically… washed with a sponge rinsed in sand :rofl:

Great colour choice :thumbsup:

And from the photos great start to the restoration! Looking forward to seeing and hearing more.

I’ve finished…… The Bonnet :roll:

Worst panel on the car by a country mile, the others should be a breeze by comparison :wink:

Much, much happier with how it’s looking now. This was a three stage process, Flex purple Cutting pad first with Meg’s 101, Then same pad with Sonax 04 06, followed by Flex red and white jeweling pad with 04 06. This took some time with 4’’ pads, and was bloody hard work :cry:

Im going to leave the roof until last, on the basis that if I go out in it the roofs down anyway :rofl:

Still, worth the effort I think;

To a degree, yes, but this colour retains some gloss in on poor light, so looks a bit like a normal dark blue

So I’ve been a bit distracted by the Mrs project ‘shoestring’ E85, but now have a plan in place with a replacement Diff on the way for that car, along with some discs and pads etc.

Managed to find a little time for a bit of engine bay detailing on my E89 today. Started out looking like this;

A lot better! Nice job. What products were used?

Bilt Hamber Surfex HD diluted circa 10/1 - excellent APC/degreaser this, very cheap when you consider how much it can be diluted and still be very effective.

Autoglym Vinyl & rubber care

That’s it :thumbsup:

Well, quick update for the ‘sweepstakers’ taking bets on me having sold this car by now.

The stone chips, which didn’t really show up in the previous photo’s, were niggling me, so the car has been off to a friends pro paint shop for a front end refresh.

Had a few photo’s along the way, but bumper off, bonnet stripped back to bare metal etc (proper job). Just had a couple of ‘flatting/polishing’ stage photo’s through and should hopefully have car back tomorrow.

New BMW roundels from BMW for the front end, but loosing the model designation for a cleaner look

Have also picked up a set of 295’s but not 100% sold on them, so may resell.

Have an Eibach Pro street coilover kit also, which is sat waiting to be fitted. Basically the stainless KW V1 kit with progressive Eibach springs. It’s still here… :tumbleweed:

Just had a ‘car back together’ photo through…..

Feeling a little bit of nervous excitement now :oops:

Well, I’ve had the car delivered back and I ‘think’ it’s a knockout job… but it was dark, and it’s hard to tell by garage light

Going to have to wait until tomorrow morning :headbang: :rofl:
