Yeah. Look at my signature on the bottom of my posts!!

Very nice work on the leather seat. It always amaizes me how much you can restore on leather.

Also nice to see a car being brought back again to top condition.

What kind of tools do you use for the different kind of plastic welding jobs you've done?
I have an adjustable electric heat gun with a mouthpiece where you can insert a plastic rod (to create a weld), but I'm not fond of that thing (I sometimes use just a large soldering iron but thats also not ideal)

Thank you.
Soldering irons everytime. Different shapes and sizes. Although, saying that, for plastic bumpers I use the electric heat gun you mentioned above. Rarely do them now though.

But...............look what I've got now........

Finally got my passenger seat finished, and both back in their original "BMW Oregon pearl grey". Photos later.....BUT.......I don't like them! Bit too shiny. May slightly scuff them with a mild abrasive pad to dull them down a bit.

Anyway, spotted this in the service history

Inbterestingly, the front nearside tyre has been deflating very slowly and I have to pump it back up every couple of weeks. So, I'm assuming this hasn't been done, off with the tyre...........

There you go then. Fait accompli :(

Off to my favourite engine building/Tig welding/servicing/repairs garage in Doncaster (Auto Services, Tel: 01302 260813
Polydon House, 3 Balby Road, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, DN4 0RA). An unbelievably well equipped garage with skills to match.

Dropped it off for Tig welding and will pick it up later. Then all 4 wheels are booked in for a refurb next monday/tuesday.

Andy.

Ha! Just noticed also that it also said that the rear front suspension bushes needed changing. Bet thats not been done either.

Can't detect any play though, no adverse tyre wear and drives beautifully. BUT, will have another look after wheel resto, just in case.

Andy.

Are you using someone local for refurb , an if I pm a list of jobs for mine would you give me a estimate, as I'm liking your work ethic

It is someone local. Highly recommended by my friend whos workshop manager at Auriga Cars in Coal Aston.
They can do a front face of the wheel refurb on site, or, as in my case, they take them away, media blast and powder coat.

I'll photograph the end product when they return on tuesday.

And, yes, I'll be glad to quote on whatever you need doing :D

Speaking of work ethic, we did front pads and discs of a member of this Z4 forum last night, and how often do you see this done in a garage these days?!

Andy.

I did my own discs and pads too, but must be honest and say I don't know what you're doing there! Can you enlighten me please! Do I need to buy more tools!!?

Lol! Don't need to buy more tools! It's a dial gauge. Measures runout (wobble) of the disc or any movement you want to measure accurately.
I look for less than 4 thousandths of an inch on discs this size.
But as long as the hub is spotless, and the back of the disc when they are mated together, there's not much else can be done to reduce run out.

Andy.

I love reading about this project Andy, you seem to have the same level of perfectionism as me

What is it that can get done to leather to renew it without replacing it? My seats etc are in good condition but as it's a 10 year old car, it could be better. Would love a way to renew them without spending on new leather. Can we see pics of how your seats came out?

Hi Marc.
Yeah, I'll get photos later for you.
Regarding the leather, nip over to furnitureclinic.co.uk and have a look at their videos and products available.
Mine were cracked and torn but came out well using one of their kits (well, the repair kit and the recolouring kit).
i would recommend stripping off the old finish and repainting and sealing. Quite straightforward to do, but smelly!

You've got the same level of perfectionism as me eh? really? Lol :)
I build show cars and this is the standard of engine bays I build. Hard work, but very rewarding.

Just discovered this,

Excellent read so far keep up the good work.

If you ever sell the car someone is in for a very well looked after example!

Amazing how you are so positive as well id be unhappy with a few things that hadn't been done by previous owners/dealer especially the wheel as that is very dangerous.

Hats off to you.

Ash

Loving this thread - wish I had half your talent and patience :D
The list of what you can't turn your hand to must be very small indeed!

Understood. So it checks if the mounted disc is running true. Makes sense

Hi Ash.
If this was my daily driver, I wouldn't be impressed at all. But, its a project and the more things wrong, the better!!
My Wife said "why do you buy a car and then take it to pieces everytime?" Hahaha.

If you need to ask, then you don't understand!!

Thanks for the compliments though

Andy

Oh, car will be for sale when ive completed it.
