Consider it started out like this

and thanks to nightyard, and no cost (apart from time), this is what we end with!

Pollen filter next, then the seat refurb.

Andy.

Oh, ive already done the soft-top. Pictures tomorrow.

Thought I would check the other cup holder on the other side, just in case.
And glad I did.
For a change the cup holder was fine, but the vent was not

More plastic welding and Q bond and its fixed!!

Perhaps now I can get onto other proper repairs!!!

Andy.

The leather on that door card looks seriously baggy.

I found a leather cleaner followed by along while with a hairdryer blowing hot air on the leather will tighten it up. Follow up with a good leather conditioner as the hairdryer will dry the leather out slightly

How are you refurbing the seats?

It was the steering wheel I noticed.

Yeah they aren't great.

My advice...sand down to the white plastic beneath and then spray matt black and Matt lacquer over the top.

To that with all the wheel trim and it should look great

Great thread  How did you learn to plastic weld? Must be very useful with the cost of replacement parts, especially the hard to find bits (or in some cases nigh on impossible to find).
Keep up the great work, I'm enjoying following the progress.

Fantastic DIY skills! Following this thread carefully in case I need to carry out similar repairs in the future :)

Okay I'm now hooked to this thread too, well done you. The thing I love about this forum is the the guys that love the cars and want to make it the best they can whether it's a 2.0l or a Z4M, you know the ones that can do....

and then we have a teacher than can.......that's just awesome :D

Masked off and scrubbed twice with the cleaner (especially on the green bits!)

Took some getting rid of the cleaner with a hose pipe, but looks gorgeous now.

Oh, thanks to Stu who sent me an ashtray! :) Now fitted and looks sexy! Well, perhaps not that sexy, but,.....you know what i mean!! Hahaha

Yep, thats the proper tool kit all right - its missing a bunch of spare fuses and a screw driver

Here you go andy, I think this is the complete kit. Towing eye, phillips/flat head screwdriver (reversible), assorted fuses, 13mm/10mm crescent, allan key for manual opening/locking of the soft top, and the wheel puzzle nut.
Not sure if the puzzle nut and allan key are part of the tool kit as such, but it seems to be where people keep them.

Thank you enzed4! I will try to find the missing bits.

Andy.

Re the tool kit, mine is intact but to be fair I cant really see the point of it as in what could you do with it if that doesn't sound like a daft question.
I presume BMW supplied it with certain repairs in mind but which ?

The most useful thing that should be in the tool kit is an alignment tool for the wheels. I hate trying to line the damn wheels up with the holes to get the lug/bolt to screw in. If a Merc SLK comes with one surely BMW could have stretched to one? I'll have to see if I can pick one up from an auto parts shop.
On another note, andy, does your Z4 have the emergency triangle in the blue plastic box (in the boot)?

All these are part of the toolkit. Opened mine for my E87 yesterday for the spanner only yo find towing eye and screwdriver only. That's from the factory as well.
