Project 2006 Z4 - restoration (Enjoy!)

I would look for the cupholder inside the vent.

its attached with like a single screw and I pushed mine into the vent one time.

Enjoyed reading that Andy and looking forward to more.

Haven't seen anyone on the forum spray the outside of the disc red but I love it and look forward to seeing it all back together in situ.

I think the headlight access panel is quite cheap from dealers as I remember someone posting up about it - anyone?

The plastic shape in your boot - if it's not the internals of your ash tray check behind your rear view mirror and see if some of the plastic surround is missing - not noticed unless you lean forward and look for it.

All the best with your continued restoration and thanks for posting - is that red motor your work? :o (Just taken another look and read it's your Camaro engine bay - brilliant  :D )

Liking your style, give it a moment and someone will probably encourage you to mod' out the 2.0 for the Camaro lump, it would make an epic project thread but don't listen to them!

Nah. Just stick a Turbo in it. It's never been done! :poke:

Excellent thread.

Andy, Will you be going for a bigger engine next time?

Would think a 2.5 si or 3.0 si would return a bit of a profit if the work is done to the standard you're looking at.

Or a high mileage, poor condition M being restored could return decent money.

Izzie the dug needs her own thread!

Thanks to everybody who has replied! Look forward to getting answers to questions I have!

Hi Skelters. Will I be getting a bigger engine next time? No, I have all the big engines I need. I run a 400 + bhp 5.7 litre V8 smallblock chevy powered camaro down the strip at odd times and drive it on the street. I am also building a 5 litre american station wagon that sits on the floor on air with 22" wheels. So dont need anymore big engines. Wanted a convertible I can just cruise in. No turbos, no nitrous, no superchargers, no chipping.....ive done all that countless times.

I want to get this car back up to first class condition and just drive it.

More updates later................

Nice looking car but at that mileage I hope servicing has been more regular than service schedule . Price also seems a bit steep for a 4 pot that needs work but enjoy.

Hi Mike6.
Thank you.
Not bothered about the mileage at all tbh. It has service history up to a point, but not bothered about that either!
I have rescued so many cars from the brink of death in the past 35 years, its now this ones turn!

Interestingly, a 2006 ford fiesta in red/orange had been abandoned in the street just down from my workshop. Was in a really bad state. Every panel bent, lights broken, tyres flat, wheels bent, gearbox with no gears, flat battery, but, guess what......I saved it...hahaha. Its now my daily driver and its lovely.

No doubt a psychiatrist would have a field day here, but to me its about the underdog. Supporting the ones that are lost and forgotten. Always has been. Especially in my 33 years of being a teacher. The clever kids will succeed anyway without me, but the weaker ones will not. And thats where I came in, and now as a vehicle restorer.

I am not building this for profit. I am building it for fun. And as Mike6 says ...enjoyment. And I am seriously enjoying it so far :-)

Andy.

Okay, today is putting caliper and brakes back together on the front right - without chipping the paint!!

Simple caliper rebuild first.....piston seal in, dust cover on, piston in and rubber sleeves installed.

I always cover the bleed nipple in PTFE tape and then red grease to 1) stop it seizing up,....2) stop any air being pulled around the threads when vacuum bleeding.

And time to put it all together....

Hi Andy and welcome aboard :) subscribed to this thread as loving your work so far! i wish i had the tools/skills to do stuff like yourself!

I too have the 2.0 and Im loving it, Ive nearly finished doing all the bits and bobs to it that i have planned so im interested to see what stuff you do as most build threads on here are for the bigger 6 cylinder engines so some of the stuff i cant do to mine so im extra excited to see whats clearly going to be a very details and thorough build/restoration to the 2.0 version :D

great work and looking forward to following (and remember.... plenty of photos :P )

Wow Andy, good on you mate. :D
Loving reading the thread and looking forwards with what you will tackle next.
I love that you have the M seats in your 2.0 and( that they are manual (very hard to come by where i live) the seats that is)

Very cool little project, and good on ya for taking it on.

Please don't do red wheel nuts :tumbleweed:

Nice work. Thought it was a bit strange painting the inside of the disks as you dont see them but hey ho.
You definately like red paint, everything gets painted red, reminds me of when I was young and my dad would hand make us toys in his work and they were always painted black, blue or orange as that was the paint that was lying around.

Welcome to the world of the custom car! Remember, just because you cant see it, it doesnt mean it isn't there!! hahahahaha. Sounds like something from doctor who!! I know what you mean though. Its going to go badly rusty under there, but now it wont! Well not as bad anyway.
