How many members of the E89 forum used to be on the E85/6 forums?
In the past I had a couple of E85s and was on that part of the forum quite a lot, getting tips on mods and fixes. I used to look from my E85 forum at the E89 cars and thought of them as really aspirational cars.
Now every now and then I look back at the EE85/6 forum with a hankering for car that once again requires me to dust off my spanners and screwdrivers, particularly the M models.
Its interesting that the same questions are still being asked years later and the banter is still the same, the E85/6 forum probably did more to build my affinity for Z cars more than the actual cars themselves.
I know my 35iS is as fast if not faster, more refined, better equipped and safer and il probably never do it, but the pull is still there.
How many others moved from 85/6 to the 89? if so do you still look into the 85/6 forum?
Do you think the 85/6 forum was more of a community?

Hi, if you look at the different groups over a number of years there’s a fair amount of cross-pollination :)
You’re always going to get a bit of friendly fire between the different camps but it’s normally good natured :P
I usually just look at the “new posts” list so get a mixture of what’s going on

I have never owned any of the 2, E85/86, but I still read a lot that goes on in that section of the forum.
To me they are pretty much the same cars bar the roofs.
If the E85 had came with a folding hard top we would probably be sitting in one of them now instead of the E89.
I think the only thing that makes the E85/86 models look slightly dated is the shape of the headlights, apart from that they have faired really well for a 15 year old design.

Same here.

I look at the forum as a whole and read all on the new threads section. Like I'm here reading this. As far as I'm concerned, this is one forum, one family

I do the same - which is why I've read this!

They're still Z4s after all - I'm sure I'll read about the G29 too.

I was thinking yesterday , as I was giving my honest and thus far, not very good opinion on how the new Zed looks. What will I type when the first G29 joins the forum. No doubt some thing on the lines of Welcome, great looking Zed.

Me too probably - but I'll spell it "Welcome".

I had an E86 3.0si Coupe before, fantastic car but the 35iS is also fantastic. They both have pros/cons but I don't think I'd got back to the E86 now, mostly down to the gearbox and noise. E86 is undoubtedly more agile though, which I miss inbetween the exhaust bangs and cracks :p.
