Program stereo to accept CD changer

Hi guys,

I am attempting to retrofit a bluetooth kit to my car via the CD changer - unfortunately no sound is being produced.

The support guy tells me I need to have my stereo "flashed" to accept a CD changer and a BMW dealer should be able to do it.

Firstly - is this true? I've never heard of this before. Secondly - can I do this myself instead? Thirdly - how much would it be if I have to do it at a dealer?

Thanks!
Wayne

With the CD changer fitted what happens if you press the mode button. It should cycle through the inputs. Never known a cd changer to have to be coded though.

Do you mean via the CD changer cables that are already in the car or do you have a CD changer in place?

I will try explain a bit better! I have a DSP Z4, but in the boot the connectors are the usual 6/3 pin connections. No OEM changer - just the cables were routed as standard. I can confirm they are plugged into the HU as well.

I can cycle through the inputs on the stereo and select the "Grom" input on the stereo. This has no audio however.

The support team pointed me to the below PDF - the BMW area has an aqua box explaining the situation:

http://gromaudio.com/grom_application_guide.pdf

As a non-nav, no changer DSP Z4 it says I should have the changer activated by BMW.

There is nothing to activate though. I used the cd cables for an intravee and that just works without programming or activation.

Yea I've no idea what to activate to be honest. Never come a cross it before. Did you have nav or a cd changer as standard?

Wish the intervee was available - this Grom is proving a pest.

Hmm that might be it then - with nav works straight out the box apparently.

I'll get a lend of a reader over the next few days and see if it's an option. Not holding much hope!

I did fit an intravee to a car without nav or cd though and that also worked straight away.

Got myself down to a specialist today and they managed to activate the Grom unit by retrofitting the CD changer function to the car head unit. Now works as expected - wheel controls/voice control/etc all functioning.
