Prof nav Text Messages

Short & simple question:

How do you 'activate' the ability to view text messages on the nav screen (2008 car). I have telephone/voice control etc, but never thought about it before.

- i'm sure it's possible. advice pls! :D

It was only possible using my old Nokia 6310i phone. None of the newer phones have managed to display the SMS messages on the screen.

Me too - never got that function working - presumably due to different bluetooth compatibility. Rest works just fine on many different Blackberries.

If your phone's bluetooth protocol supports it this works out of the box. You can send and receive SMS text messages from the nav screen. The nav screen will show a little envelope icon upon reception of a text message.

Most recent Nokia's will not support SMS text messages and/or phone book transfers to the Z4.
Most BlackBerry's should.
Most Sony Ericsson's support everything the Z4 can handle - they have one of the most standard bluetooth implementations.

Worked on my 54 plate M3 with a Samsung D700 (?) and a 900...doesn't work on my 56 Z4M with Blackberry Bold. Careful though- on the M3, all the previous owners texts were displayed when I connected my phone. Learnt quite a bit about him!

Interesting on the Blackberry . I've not had it working on a pearl, curve or storm on either of my BMW's (Version 8 and 12 ULF's) If there's a way do let me know.

Oops, my bad, checked the wrong column on the BlackBerry's... they indeed don't support SMS text messages, just phone book transfer.
In addition... most iPhone's, HTC's, Motorola's and Samsungs also don't support SMS text messages.

There are lots of different overviews of BMW compatible phones, but this is the most recent one which contains very detailed info:

I digress slightly but has anyone come by a simple method of wiping the contents of a ULF module?

There are several reasons I'd like to do this from not leaving my car with courtesy parking at airports, to eventual sale when I want it cleaned off, due to the privacy requirments of some of my business contacts (senior banks don't like mobiles and DDI getting out :) )

I've purchase ULF in the past and got the complete life of an owner off the module.

Don't know about the ULF, but my nav won't even let me delete addresses that I don't want.
They disappear when I select 'delete', but they're back the next time I look.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's something that has to be done at the dealer.

Does it not get wiped when you un-pair the phone? Not that I have tried that though.

i'm 100% sure that i cleared mine when I sold my last Z4. think I just either unpaired, or paired with a blank sim card - sorry cannot remember which, but you can do it, it doesn't need a dealer.

I don't think unpairing does it. Of course if you pair another phone then that has the first shot at connecting. If that had a blank address book then I guess it would sync to blank.

There must be a way of just wiping it.

Yes there definitely is, and someone has posted on here about it too.

It's a procedure to wipe all previous pairs, but I wouldn't mind betting it deletes the contacts too.

Can't remember who it was, pretty sure it was something to do with holding the pairing button / key positions, etc,

If that doesn't do it, it might be the same way of coding it that can reset it - there's a way you can plug into the canbus and change the ULF name, etc.
