Well I am about to return to the Z4 fold. After 3 E89's I went for a 4 series (too big and boring), then a Porsche Boxster (too small and noisy).

I went to a couple of BMW dealers looking at the new Z4, just the right combination of style and comfort IMO. The tech toys are wonderful, I particularly like the head-up display and the Harman Kardon sound system. AND - non run flat tyres as standard! The test drive went well and I ended up placing an order.

I went for the Sport model, at my age (70 something) I am making some allowance for my frequent back pains by avoiding the MSport. Delivery is mid May, counting down the days.

Afraid not, I didn't get the usual 'new car' excitement when I drove it home from the dealers. I spent the next few months trying to bond with it but it didn't happen. Eventually I found myself preferring to drive my wife's Audi A3 to the Porsche :D

Nothing wrong with the GTS, just not my cup of tea I guess. The guys on the 718 forum are all very enthusiastic about theirs, I met up with them a couple of times and they are bunch of great people.

There has to be a reason why so many come around to a Z4 time and again - Im also 70+ so officially in old git status, got wobbly legs etc but with a smarttop module fitted and with the adaptive suspension on the 35is, I cope ok.

The trips down to SW Germany are split into two hops but there's rarely a rush on holiday!

Have you sat in the new Z4 ? I have, and it is very comfy at first seating - however I am not driving one until next weekend, so don't yet know if the ride quality compromises that initial impression.

:?

You need to take more water with it RW... :dizzy:

The E89 has comfy seats but the G29 seats knock it into a cocked hat....superb chairs...I’d love a pair in the 35is.

I sat in the new Z4 a couple of weeks ago the M 4.0 and the 2.0 all I can say, very good choice Sir

ok, i will accept bmw has probably improved the ride comfort of the zed since my m sport specced 2005 z4, i hope so, my zed has the tarmac smoothing ability of a lada thats failed its mot - dont get me wrong, i love my zed, but it remains the most crashy suspension i have ever endured in 50 years of motoring

Thanks for the good wishes :) I’ve never really left this forum but look forward to being more involved again.

Most of the above comments refer to comfort and seating. Yes I have sat in, and driven, a demonstrator. In the limited time I had (30 minutes) I found the seats to be as good as they look, firm yet very comfy. My demonstrator was an MSport, suspension a little hard, but I have ordered the Sport model which is softer. The same MSport seats are provided on all models in the range.

Review to follow next month after delivery :)
