Problems with K&N air filter

I recently changed my panel air filter to a K&N filter, straight swap in the box, done a few (60) miles and today the car more or less broke down and went into limp mode, popped it in the garage and the diagnostics read that it was an 02 sensor, this worried me because the sensors have been replaced before, so I stopped and started until I managed to get home and then it got me thinking that the only thing that had happened was that I changed the air filter, fitted the original back in and I have just got back from two hours problem free motoring? Could a different air filter cause this much trouble?

maybe as a test stick your k and n back in and see if it happens again.

it would be an interesting test and may help you decide if it is.

Never had a problem with my k&n, the O2 sensor is on the exhaust so how is the air filter going to effect that.

When the car went to the main dealer a few weeks back the code that was thrown up was a sensor code, that turned out to be a crack in the exhaust manifold? I have seen various threads that say the oil off the K&N filter can foul the MAF sensor?

Now it does seem that it's not the fault of the filter, driving along today and it went back into limp mode, if I drive with slight acceleration the car is fine, if I push the accelerator say half way down the car stalls and goes back into limp mode? Could this be a fuel/fuel pump issue maybe? Getting to the point now where I am getting tired of the car, never had so many problems....
Any help would be appreciated.
