Problems with DSC

Hello,

I have been driving my Z4 3I for six years now and have only clocked up 20,000 Km. During this time I have been plagued with problems with the Dynamic Stability Control sensors,
Auto Bavaria have changed the sensors twice already and again this week the sensors have again failed (nothing actually wrong with the steering or brakes )
Is anyone else having this problem ?

Hi there!
I have Z4 2005 with 25,000 miles, same thing happened to me, I just kept driving, I'll go off soon, it appears to be whenever the car faces an unlevel road or being lifted the lights shows off, I'll say keep driving and forget it.

One possible cause.

If you have had a four wheel alignment and they did NOT reset the steering angle sensor, it will cause DSC issues.

Had similar issues due to this on my wife's 2003. The shop forgot to reset the sensor. Took 2 mins to reset and all was fixed.

Just something to think about.

ShipKiller,

I'm due to get alignment done as can clearly see uneaven wear on the rear offside, about 1/2 inch out  . Question though is I'm also having DSC warnings on the dash (hadbrake and DSC yellow on the dash), can poor alignment contribute just as much as proper alignment without sensor reset?

How is the sensor reset, stealer only?

I only had intermittent DSC issues when semi-hard cornering or driving quickly over large bumps which would unload a wheel, which was not happening before the alignment.

Anyone who can talk and program the DME. Dealer or a good independent.

On the newer Hunter Laser Alignment machines automatically tells the operator that the Steering Angle Sensor needs to be calibrated. I just learned this tidbit of info last week.

The brake, tire pressure, and dsc sensors are all connected. If you are getting red lights for any of these take it to bmw. Yellow just means they are activating or it is warning to have that part checked out including having sensor checked. If the brake and dsc both come on yellow with the tire pressure if you have that option have them check your ignition. If your ignition malfunctions it will cause your lights on your dash to as well sometimes.
