Problems selecting first gear

Hi all,

Sometimes have problems selecting first gear when at a standstill. Very intermittent, but very annoying!

Gearstick only seems to go part way into the gate, if i try to pull off it doesn't.

End up pulling away in second; can't seem to locate anything in the search, but did see a thread on changing 'lifelong' gearbox oil.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

mine is very occasionally a bit stiff to get into first if starting out from cold ie first pull away in the morning. never have problems when going from say a traffic light.

try popping it into 2nd then into first. it works for me if it is stiff going into first in the morning.
 
Try searching for 'stiff gearbox' in the Google custom search box at the top of the forum page, there are quite a few posts regarding stiff gears. Mine is quite difficult to engage 1st or 2nd when cold, ok when warmer but still a little notchy.
 
Used to have the same issue with my 3 series. Agree with Greeno that a 2nd to 1st usually does the trick....
 
Thanks guys, will give it a try.

Strangely my seems to be when warm; know I should move 2nd and back, but after not having moved for a few seconds I tend to just pull away in 2nd which I hate doing.

Very strange for a premium car brand, would love my s2000 box in this car!
