Problems Allready

My new Z has been in the shop twice and it only has 800 miles on it. The first time the SES light came on at 170 miles, turned out to be a sensor related to the fuel vapor return valve. Now its back in, doesnt want to start after you fill up with gas. Have any of you run into this before?

I must say my dealer has been excellent. Both times I have gotten in same day, recieved a loaner. The first time was a new 5 series, this time a 3 with 10,000 miles. (My wife loves the 3 and is talking about trading her current vehicle for one.) I'm not sure this is a good thing since her vehicle is only a year old, and our current BMW has been nothing but problems.

I am just finding it fustrating that a car of this caliber has more miles from driving back and forth for problems, than for enjoyment. :headbang: This better stop. :x

Hi z44me,

Hang in there and keep all your records !! A buddy of mine just used the lemon law and, since his first visit for a persistent problem was reported at such low miles, his compensation for a new rig was surprisingly high. The replacement car was provided at invoice cost. His issue was the stereo in his X5. He swapped the X5 for a 535xi but in the meantime of returning it, he rang up serious miles. Of course, intermitent tunes could be a considerable distraction to enjoyment and, in this case, it was temperature related but unsolveable.

Hope a more promising resolution comes your way but remember to consider the long term, protecting the backside as a precaution. Good luck!

I have no complains. Love BMW. Friend of mine had his older 5 series and as i remember it had 300k on it. Ran like a charm. Just hang in there.

I agree with keeping tabs on the car troubles. I used to have a Roaster and it game quite a bit of trouble. BMW Canada took it back after 5 months and replaced it with a Coupe - the Coupe has been problem free. The head of BMW Canada was in touch with me over the issue. I do not think that the head honcho at any other company would have taken a personal interest....

BMW takes care of it's customers. They charge a lot but they do deliver....

Here is the latest. The car has been in the shop since Thursday afternoon and they still havent found the problem. They have opened up a ticket with BMW to get help from them. The best guess at this point is a leak in the vapor return line is causing the car to lose presssure, then when I fill the tank the pressure caused by that is flooding the car. ??????? That doesnt even make since to me, but they are the pros. :headbang:

As of tomorrow the car will have been in the shop as many days as it has not. I'm starting to lose patience. .

If the car only has 800 miles and has spent so much time in the shop already, I would try to schedule a meeting with the GM of the dealer and see if he would switch you into another new Z4 - worst thing he can say is no.

I hope it doesnt come to that. I think the problems have been related, I just want the car fixed correctly. After today I am headed out of town for a couple days. If it is not fixed when i return we WILL have a problem.
