Problem!

I have a problem I got my new wheels couple of days back with winter tyres. To be clear I'm new to z4, new to rear wheel drive. On my summer set I had fronts 225/40/18 rears 255/35/18 all Goodyear asymmetric eagle f1 2 run flats, grip was great etc, now with these new wheels it has 225/40/18 all round I think the rears are slightly stretched, these are budget tyres I think. My grip seems non existent borderline ice rink, my back end just seems to want to go, also I have my red run flat light on,
I'm looking at getting a set of falken winters to match my summer sizes in next day or so, part worn 6 months on 3 series,

Is the reason I'm skating because they are budget? Or winters in potentially not exact winter conditions? , because they are stretched?, I'm not as confident in the car at the moment and don't like the idea of being put off my wheels lol, and also how do I get the red light off as pressures are ok. Help will certainly be appreciated as right now I potentially don't feel safe :/ that was the whole idea of my winter tyres? I am going away soon so won't be driving it really for 10 days so weather should really change?

Sorry for the huge story!

Likely it is a mixture of the above. Winter tyres only work below certain temps so check online for the tyre manufacturer/model and see what it says for yours.

Going to a smaller tyre on the back will also reduce grip and in fact may be causing your DSC to throw a fit as the rolling radius is no longer what the car thinks it is.

Some new tyres can need a few hundred miles, it's due to the chemicals that release the tyre from the mold still been on the tyre

Switching the wheels will have triggered the TPMS , just needs resetting
The stretched rears won't be helping & if they are cheap tyres then whether summer or winter you will notice the "skateish" feel compared with your Goodyear's
Ive been running Vred Wintrac for 12 months on my fwd van , no loss of grip in any conditions but i know some winter tyres do struggle in warmer temps & especially so if warm & wet
Try the Falken winters & see if the situation improves

doesn,t DSC only pick up that one wheel is loosing grip and not that the the tyre size difference alters anything. I may be wrong but thats how I see it.

The tyre is designed such that at 7 C and below the compound will be soft enough to give good traction, at higher temperatures the compound becomes over soft which should give more grip but with increased tyre wear.

If they are not RFT's increase the pressures slightly to compensate, this may help with "feel"

You also need to reset the tyre pressure monitoring system as you have made a change.

As someone else has stated given them a few hundred miles before ditching them, however I wouldn't be happy with 225's on an 8.5 rim

Thanks for all the replys :) the tyres are not brand new only 1, rest have 5mm tread as got them off a 3 series.
Resetting the TPMS is that just holding down the button above the ashtray? Tried this nothing happens?

I will try putting more pressure on the tyres and potentially change back to summers wheels for another couple of weeks, and I think I will get the falkens as didn't like the 225's on the back anyway.
