Problem with the roof

I am pressing the button to get the roof down, and it lights a red light and the roof is not moving. Also I don't hear a sound or something working. Any ideas before I go to the local dealer?

Yes I am sure. It is red. In the past I have seen the red light only when trying to open the roof with slow speed.

What should I check in the boot?

As said
In your boot , there's a little shelf, designed for giving more room in boot,
Make this is fully down as wont open if not
Twist the oblong handles in then out to move it up and back down incase switch stuck
Hopefully that'll be it:)

Does it unlatch from the windscreen and do your windows drop?
If none of those happen it could be same issue I had with mine, got mine fixed today.
Mine was a broken wire from the motor at the front of the roof above the windscreen. A couple other wires had kinks in them too.

When my roof wouldn't work and I got the red light, it turned out to be the micro switch on the parcel shelf. I used electrical cleaner on the switch and it's worked fine since.

D4dwg thank you. I will try to check this tomorrow after I finish my work and I hope it will get solved this way.

None of those happen unfortunately. I will check what D4 says and then if it is not, it goes again to the dealer.

Firebobby thank you. Where is that microswitch and the parcel shelf?

Micro switch failure is an orange light, not red.

The shelf is in the boot, it raises and lowers to allow you to put more luggage in. There's a track on the bulkhead between the cabin and boot, you will see a lever in the track, that's the switch.

I had a red light when I pressed the down button and nothing happened, no window movement, nothing. I sprayed the micro switch and it workd ??

EDIT
I just checked my old posts Russ and your right mate, it was the amber light that came on, so OP, it's not the switch.

Most welcome buddy

The micro switches of which are being talked about are the bits that I'm hoping you can trigger as may possibly need contact cleaner on them

But move shelf up and down using these oblong handles and fingers crossed its just a case if you've got a sticky switch or maybe if used boot you've knocked the shelf perhaps and lifted it off said switch and it thinks it's in up position :)

Let us know buddy!

On the off chance that it is unfortunately not the switch and something more serious, I had a gent on this forum fit a new motor for me. He's a BMW technician based in the Surrey area.
He buys the motor from the main dealer where he works, then fits it at his home.
Takes about three hours to fit. £580 it cost in total and as its a BMW part has a warranty on it.
Ross was his name. Bowser134 is his forum name.

Ross moved my motor into the boot, certainly worth doing this if a new motor is being fitted.

Finally today I found half an hour after work to go and check what you told me with the shelf in the boot.
I did what you told me and it was exactly that. I feel a little embarrassed
It is a necessity to read finally the manual of car after 8 months owning it.

At the end I ended up having a long ride with the roof down in 23 degrees celsius. Small moments that show the joy of life :driving:

Thank you for your help guys!

Mate you simply didn't know

I only know as my parents and I have had a lot of softops, and I knew about the shelf as seen my mother have same issue in a Merc

I assumed same in Ms:)
