Problem with rear door (hatchback)

I have a Z4 coupe and find that the hard plastic in the rear hatchback (door) rattles against the metal of the rear door over bumps.

If I open the boot/hatch and tap the plastic it clangs against the metal - showing that it isn't flush against the metal.

This has been a problem from new. The Stealers took off the plastic and stuffed it with felt, which reduced the problem but didn't fix it. I took it back and they removed the felt and (claim to have) altered the catch/latch and alignment. It's now clanging over bumps worse than before. Its been to (several) Stealers 8 times now for various rattles and defects - all under warrenty and always without success. Not only have they been completely useless, they have wasted my time and made a fast buck from BMW UK by replacing parts that didn't need replacing - while not fixing any of the issues. I have now completely given up on the Stealers and have decided to do it myself.

I do, however, need your advice.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Is it easy to take the hard plastic interior away from the metal rear door/hatch - are there any instructions for this? Is there a better material than felt to bridge the gap between plastic and metal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Speak to BMW UK and/or try a different dealers.. otherwise if it ends up being warranty as the only solution they might not look if you've obviously had a play.

Where are you based? I've had good dealer experiences with rattles.

I'm in Leeds area. Dealers here are useless.

The problem has been there since new (18 months) and they know about it. They've just failed to fix it each time.

There's a rattle issue in TT's, the rear parcel shelf. The fix that people found was to split it and add silicone where the two parts rub. Maybe try removing the plastic, adding some silicone around contact points and possible contact points, maybe add some felt if the stealers removed it, and try that. If its not sitting flush/tight to the metal, you either want to tighten it, or reduce the amount of play i.e. padding and silicone.
