Problem with new battery

Hello all. I've been reading this forum since I got my 2007 Z4 a year ago, and I've gotten lots of great info. I seem to have encountered the first problem that I can't find an answer for by searcing the forums, so I thought I would stop lurking and just ask. I apparently failed to run the Z sufficiently last winter, and have been dealing with a dying battery for the past few months. After being unable to start the car this weekend, I decided to go to AutoZone and get a new battery. The guy got on his computer and decided I needed a Duralast Gold H5-DLG. I took it home and installed it, and the car started right up. The problem is, the battery is physically too small. There is a gap of about an inch between the battery and the plastic bracket on the right. My question is, did I make a mistake in installing it, or did they give me the wrong battery? Their website says thats correct as well. Thanks in advance for the time and advice.

I will try to get a picture of it tomorrow. It's loose though. The metal bracket on top does help, but it doesn't take much force to push it into that gap. There is no doubt that making a left turn will caue it to slide to the right.

Sounds like you've lost something, mine has a second clamping bracket on the right hand side as you look in the boot?

That's the wrong battery. The correct Duralast battery for your Z4 is Duralast H6-DLG (not H5-DLG)

The H6-DLG is not only the correct size, but also has the correct Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating of 770. H5 is only 650.

H5 is lighter though. :)

However, you CAN keep the H5 if you really wanted to. As lacroupade said, the bracket for the battery should be adjustable for a smaller battery if required.

Well there is a bracket on the right that slides back and forth, and theoretically should hold the battery in place, but it doesn't lock into position. I slide it up against the battery, but it will slide back to the right of the compartment under very little force. Perhaps either the bracket or the track is slides on is broken? Anyway, I'm gonna take the advice given, go back to Autozone, and get the correct battery. Thank you so much to all who replied!

Sorry I was arse about face......the second clamp is on the left hand side as you look in. I've circled both the main top clamp fixing bolt (bottom of pic) and the fixing bolt for the end clamp (left hand side of pic) that grips the lip on the bottom of the battery.

If you fitted it then you've lost the bolt and clamp piece or never had it.....if the garage fitted it, then you know what to do.

Well, I do have both bolts, but perhaps I either failed to slide the battery far enough to the left when I put it in and the lip didn't get clamped down, or I didn't tighten it enough. Either way though, if the H6-DLG will fit perfectly and also has the correct CCA, I think I will just exchange it. The Pennsylvania winter can get quite cold, and even though I'm gonna make sure I run it more this year, I think I'm gonna need all the power I can get. :)

Thank you again though!

I just wanted to give an update. I got the H6, and it does fit perfectly. The guy at Autozone changed it for me, and there were no issues at all. Thanks to all for the advice, and I promise to try to be more active in the forum, instead of just begging for help when I have a problem. :)
