Problem with my roof.

I am having similar issues with mine - a 2005, 3.0, auto, usual amenities. It is garage kept ('cept for a day here or there) and has about 34k miles on the odometer. Never had a problem dropping the top in the past, but this week it quit on us.

Engine running, in park, foot on the brake, and press/hold the button - red light illuminates, door windows lower, after the slight pause the locks disengage, the roof raises up slightly, and you hear the pump running. The top will pull away from the roof about 1.5"-2" and then pump shuts down. It doesn't sound as if it is grinding to a halt or binding up in any way - rather is it an immediate shut down like it is losing the power to operate. I checked the micro switches in the trunk and they are in the position they need to be - but I am hesitant to even think they may be the culprit as it attempts to come down in the first place.

No orange light comes on and you can continue holding the button in and nothing starts back up. Once you let go of the button the red light will start flashing. After the frustration simmers down a little I push the other button to close the roof and it will raise back up tight against the windshield seal, the locks engage, and all is well.

What might be the problem? I don't think the drains are clogged (leading to corroded pumps/motors/etc) and there is definitely power getting to everything. But power seems to be dropping off somewhere. Any ideas???

I had the same issue with mine. It happened a couple times like that... At first it wouldn't work, then with minimal force it would drop. Eventually it stopped working, had to get motor replaced.

Have to agree with Andy - sound like dead or dying motors.

One thing you could try is to assist the roof up or dwon while the motor is running just in case a combination of cold, lack of use and general stiffness is making it seize. Bit of a long shot, but better than getting ccredit card and socket sets out.

Another question!! Mine does everything except you do not hear the motor at all. I cannot pull the emergency cable any. I have the busted knuckle to prove it. Is ther a test point that is accessible to measure voltage coming to the motor and is there a link to removing the top. Anybody done this that is just your average "mechanically inclined"????
