Problem with my E85 2.5i (auto)

I’ve been having a problem with my 2004 z4 which is automatic. I’ve taken it to an official BMW garage and the guy pretty much said to me he’s not to sure what up with it. The problem is when the cars started in parked or put into parked about 90% of the time the car shows a transmission warning light and goes into a limp mode and jumps when put into drive or reverse . However if the car is started in neutral it runs perfectly fine with no issue it only when I put it into parked it’ll keep the rear parking sensors going and come up with the transmission light putting it into as stated before a limp mode and jumping when put into gear. I’m hoping someone’s able to help me out as it’s a fantastic car and I’d hate to have to get rid of it.

Did he put a code reader on it?
If not, buy one, they pay for themselves in one or two uses.

Hi Steve I used a carly obd reader and the code it came up with was 299a transmission code
Looking at that link, if it is a connection/communication code, then it could well be the gasket around the connector. I don't know the 6HP box well but it should be similar to the 8HP. Where the plug connects to the transmission is a gasket that can fail.
The issue you have is your garage seems to be crap. If you're paying someone it's not going to be that cheap a job.

It's not a difficult DIY to drop the box sump, swap the gasket and change the oil, but it's fiddly as you need to be able to get the car level for the fill.

If a DIY fix isn't an option, depending on where you are people might be able to recommend a good BMW Indy.

Anyway I hope you can get it fixed.

Possibly, something cut is never good!

This should help you narrow it down: https://bmwteka.com/wds/en/e85
