Problem with Dice install in 2005 Z4

2005 Z4, single play CD. When I set out to do the install, it seemed like it was going to be so easy. But, noooo. The biggest and probably only problem is to get the 3 and 6 pin connectors out from under the console box. As far as I can tell, the two wires I need are under the console box and are weged in very tightly. I have undone the torque bolts in the box with hopes of being able to lift the box from the trunk and get the wires out. Box hardly moved and wires are held tightly fast under the box. Here's a picture of where I'm at jsut so that I know I'm in the right place and doing the right thing:

Will I ahve to remove the whole center console to get the wires out? I hope not as this is a real PITA (did it when I installed the interior motion sensor for the alarm system). Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, does anyone know what this is: Within the battery well and between the battery and the rear bumper (that is, in front of the battery) is a black rectangular box. What is it?

BTW, how does one post a picture in this field? I'd like to show you where I'm at in the DIY

I had a similar problem when installing my Dice unit. I used a long flat balded screwdriver to pry up on the bottom of the console box from the trunk. I found that the plastic on the box just 'flexible' enough to allow a slight movement - just enough to loosen the connectors and allow them to be fished out.

I leverage a big screw driver between the box and the firewall lip, and maybe the box moved 1/4' Certainly not tnough for any of teh wires to move.

Yeah, that's about what I got (1/4"). That was enough in my case to get the wires loose in my case. I still needed to tug on them somewhat, but it did not feel like I was forcing them. There are some photos in a How To I wrote when I did my Dice install. It looks a bit different than yours. Do you have DSP? Unfortunately, I do not have a photo with the DSP mounting bracket removed (which would be closer to your photo). Also, it looks like you have a set of wires running through the back of the console box, is that correct? Do you have a CD changer installed?

Wow - my 2007 Coupe has a lot more room between the back of the console and the metal frame than what you are showing in that picture. I have close to an inch of space to work in which made fishing the iPod cable through into the console a piece of cake. Yours looks like it has almost zero space to work in.

No DSP, no changer.

Yeah, you got it right. It's a bitchin tight.

I guess I was lucky then ... it was fairly easy to pull them out from under the console box.

Interestingly, I put a picture of where I am at in my attempted install, but I now see that it is relegated to a "Blocked ad." What's up with this?

Can't fix it if you remove the link. May have been your photo hosting site doing the blocking :idunno:

Don't think so as I use photbucket and the pic appeared on other sites. In fact, I think it was originally in my edited post, but now it is gone. Here's another try:

It's my browser's (Maxthon) popup blocker that's blocking the pic for me. With it off, the pic is there...
