Problem with AUX

I'm getting really annoyed with this.

I jump in the car and plug my iphone in to my AUX cable. It crackles and has horrible background noise. Every cable i've had does this.

The annoying thing is it seems to do it set a max volume on the stereo to be very quite, maybe because of the loud noises. Does DSP have this 'limiting' thing built in to avoid damaging anything?

To get it to be normal again I need to turn the car off and hope that plugging in the iPhone doesn't make it crackle.

I plan on an intrevee, but not for now. am I destined to restart the car 3 times every drive I do?!

Sam thats definitely not right. I know where the AUX goes into the dash its easy enough to knock and if you have a jack in it then i suspect it could get damaged. Mine you just plug your iphone/device into, turn that up full and listen away. Mine also has DSP fitted and it doesn't make a difference.

I just have a lose cable coming from the glove box, pre factory fitted. It's the jack that goes into my phones that's dodgy, but only on connection, which seems to cause this 'muting' effect.

Hmm - my cable goes into an Aux input on the underside of the dash. Should be a pic on this link somewhere to how mine looks. Computer nerds at work block the pics so i can't figure out how to link directly :P

That came in late '06, mine was just before it was factory fitted.

Annoyingly, I've had 2 cables, and they have both done this. I suppose I try an other supplier...
