Problem playing Mp3 CDs in Business CD

Hi All - first post, so please be gentle!
I'm having a problem with mp3 cd's in my 06 56 Z4 2.5i with Business CD. If I burn an mp3 cd with all the tracks in the root of the CD (i.e no folders) then it plays fine (burnt using both iTunes and Toast on a Mac). If I group tracks into albums (for example), in folders in the root of the CD, then it won't play. More specifically, it will play the first few tracks, then just skips the rest. Sometimes it will play tracks near the "end" of the disk (i.e. in the folders further down the disk) but the middle set of tracks never play.
Is there some specific format for mp3 cd's with folders that I'm not aware of? Has anyone else managed to get an Mp3 Cd with folders to play all the way through?
TIA
Si

That concept works fine for me usually, agree it would have to be single session probably.

All standard MP3 format.. ie 128kbit or whatever?

Saying that I've never had an MP3 not play, but still would be worth checking.

Aye... all 192Kbps CBR on this particular disk.

Disk with folders plays fine in a fairly old DVD player with mp3 support, so not sure what the problem is - unless it's a faulty unit? (Seems strange that it would only affect disks with folders though).

Few possibilities...

Too many files in a folder - maybe there is a limit of X (99 ?) files per folder or something ?
Corrupt or truncated files - maybe when it pre-reads the sub-folders it finds a corrupted MP3 and that blocks that whole folder from playing.
Unknown file types - I always deleted M3U, JPG files etc. (in fact, all non-MP3 files) before burning. Maybe these are confusing the player ?

To check for corrupt files you could try this...

http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/
MP3val is a small, high-speed, free software tool for checking MPEG audio files' integrity. It can be useful for finding corrupted files (e.g. incompletely downloaded, truncated, containing garbage). MP3val is also able to fix most of the problems.

all sensible suggestions, but I'm incredibly lazy and never bother taking the m3u & jpgs out and it's always ok. Definitely worth checking though.

What year is the car btw ?

Thanks to all for the replies. Think (touch wood) I've cracked it.
Both iTunes and Toast were burning the disks at the maximum speed possible (40x). I've dialed the speed down to 8x, and the two disks I've done so far are working fine. So I'm guessing the head unit is fairly sensitive to minor errors.

Was going to say sounds like a bad burn if it plays tracks at the beginning and sometimes at the end. I use to get this all the time after 50+ burns.

I always burn at 8x or lower as it doesnt take much longer.

i have no problems playing mp3's but i have no track information, is this normal, when i play same cd in the golf, i have all information, ie artist, title etc

mine is an 09 plate

press the info button, then tick one of the options on the next screen.. can't remember what it's called but i had to do it once upon a time too.

which info button?

Digging up an ancient thread here but...

I thought MP3 CD's wouldn't play? I have the DVD NAV unit in a '04 car. I've tried burning the CD's from multiple different burners at multiple speeds, from different bits of software and using different files and I've still not managed to get an MP3 CD to work :\

Tends to just sound like white noise, as if the car were interpreting the MP3 as a an AIFF (as per a normal Audio CD).

What am I doing wrong? :)

Grey = :thumbsdown:

One more I've just put in the FAQ.

I'm just awkward and like to complicate the above...

I've swapped the front plate from my old grey HU onto a newer black-fronted unit that I bought on ebay. Plays MP3 discs and is grey :)
