Problem after Problem - Roof Stopped Working...

While your roof is working, if you get an hour spare consider cleaning out the roof drains to try and stop any water build-up around the roof motor. There are various guides kicking around to help, but it's not hard to get at the drain plugs.
 
Hi I'm new to the forum but wanted to share what worked for me concerning drain plugs and convertible roof top motor issues. I had my motor just decide to quit working one day out of the blue. After a friend and myself removed the top I noticed the motor in a very poor rusty condition due to improper water drainage. I cleared out both sides (driver and passenger) drain plugs by blowing my air hose from the bottom out. Was very successful with this method, you wouldn't believe all the debre that came out...11 years worth. I then encased the new motor with a mold from a milk container. Using a spray hard foam insulator available at most home improvement stores. I then cut the milk container to expose the mold with the motor in it. The only step left was trim to fit with razor knife. I know this post may sound strange but it worked very well, and is 100% water tight. I won't be replacing a $380 motor anytime soon I hope. The in thing now is just to relocate the motor to the boot.

Thanks for sharing your method of fixing the water vs top motor problem.
I found that the OEM sound insulation 'box' is perfectly good for keeping water out if you seal the joins with RTV or similar. I'll probably end up relocating it to the boot soon anyway.
