hi forum,

i'm excited to be here because as of tomorrow, there is a very good chance i will be picking up a 2004 Z4 tomorrow!!! i'm getting a great price on it, it's condition is near flawless, and it only has 39K miles on it!! now i've run an autocheck on it and the VIN checks out, nothing on there with a score of 93. the owner has been very open with me and been helpful with every question i've asked so i really don't think he's trying to get rid of a car with a lot of problems or anything like that. i've been debating if i should still try to have it taken into a independent BMW servcie area to have it inspected...i've already seen adn driven the car, and as far as my mechanical knowledge goes theres nothing wrong with it. i mean all the gauges and electronics work, fired up fine, drove like a dream, got back and nothing leaked or smoked or anything. trunk and cabin don't look like they've had any water damage, so i mean really am i throwing away like 150 bucks by doing so? they flat out said they're not going to get into the guts of the car to check compression or anything since it's probably not necessary due to age and mileage of the car? other than some minor fading on the steering wheel, and little itty bitty cosmetic inpefections here and there, the car is gorgeous, well taken care of. it was a lease car first, and then the owner i'm buying it from now is the 2nd owner. and he has all service and documentation maintence work since he's owned it.

can anyone chime in on tire tread specific to an 04 2.5i? that was one of my only concerns, as the tread looked really low, but perhaps they're supposed to look that way on a Z? if someone could please enlighten me, with the mileage of the car should they be that low already?

otherwise hoping to pick it up tomorrow, hoping it's a great car for years to come!!!!

thanks!!!

The Z4s use high performance summer tires. You don't get a lot of miles on 'em. They should be "legal" though when you buy it.

Hi and welcome - if you click the link in my signature it will take you to a used purchase checklist. Perhaps just worth running through it before you hand over your hard earned $ (some bits are UK specific). Not sure what the US regs are with regard to safe/legal tread depth but in the UK the legal minimum is 1.6mm BUT this is a minimum and BMW certainly recommend 3mm in several publications. As your only point of contact with the road is through your tyres you obvioulsly want the best possible. If the Zed is still running on runflats then you might want to consider a change to standard tyres in the future and there many links on this site to give you advice. Good luck

Oh, and 39K, it has surely had one new set of tires. I got 30K on the OEM Bridgestones and that was much better than most. I stayed with run-flat, but switched to Michelin PS2 ZPs (still a BMW approved tire).

thanks for inputs guys! excited to pick up car, not excited for hours at DMV. figure i'll just do the ol penny test on the wheels today to see how good they're sitting. if i need em, i need em, no way around that lol...

btw anyone have a link to a post on here installing the actual BMW ipod interface cable that goes for $179? interested in that for sure, wondering how easy it is i've heard it's pretty simple.

You might want to search on that iPod link. Several fellas use 3rd party units that are less expensive and do the job as well.
