Prob with my Z3 :-(

Not Z4 related I know :) but have a little problem with the Z3 which appeared maybe coincidentally after driving through a bad rainstorm. When I lock the car via the keyfob which sets the alarm after a few minites the hazard lights start flashing which stop when I unlock the car again. Luckily I can lock the manually with the key but a slight pain as I have to lock the passenger door from the inside as there is no key lock. I suspect its an alarm issue. Done some googling but there doesn't seem to be a common theme. I've checked the bonnet switch which looks OK but don't know what else there is to check. I'm thinking of removing the radio unit and checking the anti theft connection as I fitted it some years ago and wondering if the connector has worked loose. Apart from that I'm guesssing the alarm is shot? The alarm doesn't sound when the hazards are flashing.

Just wondered if anyone has come across this with BMWs.

Thanks,

Tim.

As there is no siren at the same time as the flashers going, I would suspect the actual alarm control unit though. If it was a sensor and the alarm unit was fine, the horn would be going off as well as the flashers.

Thanks pvr, I need to check it with say the hood down and see if the alarm does go off and sound, you can disable the interior via the keyfob. But when the hazards flash after I lock the car there is no alarm sound. I've been told it could be the crash sensor thats gone faulty which I understand is near the steering column which makes the hazards flash in the even of an accident but as you say I think its more alarm related :(

Problem solved, disconnected the bonnet alarm switch :) New switch on order.

It's usually this when the alarm misbehaves in a BMW of that era.... I just disconnected the one on my E46 rather than replacing it.

I've ordered a used one off ebay, so it might not be any better than whats already on the car. Looking at RealOEM the switch on my Z3 has been superseeded twice so I've found one of the latter types and will try it. I think the switch plunger is longer on the later versions. Just worried someone might steal the engine
