Pro Clip install

After searching this and other forums for a proper mount for a phone in the Z4 it looked like the Pro-Clip was the solution most people looked to. I went ahead and ordered it along with the magnetic mount. This meant a new case, but that was ok since I uses a minimalistic case anyways.

The install went well, as some have mentioned, the supplied tools for creating the gap are at best adequate but did do the job. All in the install took me maybe 10 minutes and that was with some adjustments to where it was mounted for my specific car and use case. One thing I will say is that the install tools were made of a material that was very sacrificial. This means that it took the damage and not the dash panels.

The only real regret that I have is that I didn't spend the few extra bucks on the charger magnetic base. I don't know why I didn't think about keeping a charge on the phone but I didn't. It wasn't until I finished the install, plugged int eh USB for sound that I realized I had no way to keep it charged. So, that's the only real negative so far and that's on me.

It fits fine, doesn't get in the way of the shifter (6sp Manual) or the AC controls. The positioning is very natural and skipping songs or listening to navigation are very natural and easy to do without taking my eyes off the road. All in all a very nice mount. Sorry, no pictures with the phone mounted as well, needed the same phone to take this picture, lol.

How’s the phone placement during driving while using maps? I’m looking for a mount but I feel like the pro clip might be to far right and down. Let me know, thank you

Unlike in my more modern cars, where I can glance over to see the map and usually have the voice prompts off, with this car, and the placement, I rely on the audio cues more. For me, the windscreen is to shallow and small to put a large phone in front of it. I have a longer trip in the next few weeks where I need GPS guidance and will update after that. For regular music its working well as the skip button is well placed on the screen and I can just poke at it without having to avert my gaze.

Is this the first phone mount you’ve tried? I want to try a suction+double sided adhesive mount on the right side of the stereo. It’s more eye level but still to the right but I would assume that it won’t stick/be sturdy enough

Fitted mine a few weeks ago, at first I wasn’t that impressed with installation. The instructions don’t mention that the bottom part fits snuggly into the groove panel.

But once all setup it works well using MagSafe. I’ve also got a BlueBus module fitted, and the whole setup now is very good.
