Private reg plate

Yeah, basically they send you a v750 form and then when you are ready you complete this and send with your documents (V5C etc...)to DVLA. They then re-issue revised V5C, tax disc, MOT and a certificate that you need to provide to whoever will print your new plates. Process can take a while though which is why buying and selling cars on private plates can be a bit of a pain.

when selling the car on i find the easiest option is to put your plate on retention i.e car goes back onto its original plate and you get a certificate for your cherrished plate, not the cheapet way to do it though

Isnt it something like £80 to retain for 1 year?
£80 is the transfer fee. Retaining it for a year is a further £25, and can be renewed as many times as you wish. At least, those were the costs when I last did it about 2 years ago.

Echo what Tas X says about sticking a plate on retention BEFORE selling a car - it's easier that way, to have the reg document in your posession with the correct details on it when selling.

Tis true what you say, but you also have the option of going to your nearest DVLA office and doing it over the counter when you are in Possesion of the v750, I got there for 9am and it was registered by 9.15, Drove home, got plates made up at local car accessorie shop and fitted the plates, From first buying the plate to getting it fitted took 13 working days for me.

I think this as changed, last time i did it, i went to the local DVLA office with paperwork, they sent it off and i had to wait a week or so for new paperwork to be posted back to me - i'm sure it changes every time i do it

Done mine 2 months ago, Turned up with V750, log book, tax disc, Insurance doc and MOT certificate, was holding all the relevant paper work inside 15 minutes to allow me to use the plate.

I have a norn iron plate on the car that's personal to me plus that's where I'm originally from

Do you think you were cloned by villains checking the forum?

Its possible, I think your less likley to have your plate cloned with a private reg as it stands out more 'imho'.
