Private Plates

I have decided I want a private plate, I know they are not universally liked, however I have just realised that Estate Agents are not the worst people in the world.

I have searched on the internet and come up with a couple of options with various agents. I have rung them and had exactly the same reply.

"I will ring the owner and see if it is still for sale and get back to you"

I have not had a single call back. These plates simply are not available, surely there is some law saying you can't advertise something you don't have?

I am at a complete loss. There is nothing in the next dvla auction, so I am stuck. I want to spend money yet nobody seems able to take it off me

Can anyone help me in my search or give me alternatives to these useless reg plate websites?

After recent experience, the DVLA website is the best and safest option. All shown there will be available. Dont use askreg.com as they are happy to take money for plates that arent available. Regtransfers.com seem to get ok reviews but always phone and ask if its available in person. Also with any purchase pay with credit card to cover yourself in the event something goes wrong,

DVLA also does their own auctions, have a look at them too. also, you can see the previous sold prices, as a sort of a guide that what they might go for (it all depends who is bidding on the day also)

Direct with DVLA no question. A mate went on the DVLA auction and lost a plate at £ 800 as he wasn't prepared to bid any more,it went for £ 850.A reg no dealer had it for sale 2 days later for 4 grand.Thieving sods.They wouldn't budge on price despite him telling them he was the other bidder.Youd've thought they might have cut hime a deal and made a bit less to get it sold quickly.It wasn't even anything that good.

I used speedyreg for mine and Kelly's plates- no budge on price but all an easy and fair process.

i would say don't buy car specific plates, by a plate for you, that way you can keep it for ever

I would only use DVLA, that way you won't be ripped off. Others have bought from other sites with success, but I have heard too many dodgy stories about private car reg sites.

Sounds like you've had a few dodgy enquiries so far? I wouldn't risk it

As above DVLA everytime unless you want something really special.

My plate i bought from DVLA much much cheaper than the plate stealers but some were still advertising my plate on sites over a month later

i hate the dvla system, u can spend hours looking for plates with letters they wont let you have. only good thing is my name only costs £255, the power of my family name being a cheap whisky
