Private Plates for Sale

There has been a few Private Plate sales/enquiries on here recently, so I thought why not combine all the plates available in one thread. I'll have a go at keeping the opening post up to date with a summary of all those available, if members want to add their posts on to the thread. That will just make it easier to see whats available without going through all pages everytime :

* Transfer fees may/may not be included in the price advertised. (Negotiate that with the seller!)

It now costs £80 to transfer a plate from one vehicle to another vehicle, or onto a retention certificate, valid for 10 years. If put it on to a retention certificate, this also includes the cost of later transferring it onto a vehicle in he future. It used to be £25 per year to retain it, but it has now changed and transfers can be done 'same day' online without the need to post off your documents as you used to, so owning a plate is now easier and cheaper than previously

Feel free to add yours (preferably with a photo ) and a price you're happy to sell it at, and we'll see how the thread goes.

Originally bought 15 years ago as a short, distinctive non-year plate for my son whose initials are "OJ". Not desperate to sell it as he's now 16, but I would part with it and invest in another one for him with the money if anyone is particularly drawn to this one.

Nice enough idea to collate them, but breaching the ethos of the sales forum where one is offers and you added one that you might sell

Yes, I get what you are saying CJ but I have put a price against mine that I would sell for and I was waiting for TCochrane92 to comeback with a price following his "What's it worth ?" thread. As long it has a price against that would be accepted by the seller I can't see a rule breaker.

Number plates are a little difficult to value exactly, as they are unique,. Unlike a Wind deflector which is worth what last weeks sold at, so values are always going to be subjective according to the relevance of the buyer. All you can do is post the value you would be prepared to let it go for.

Happy for a Mod to delete it, but surely a thread with all available numbers in one place is better than spreading them around everywhere ?

No I’m sure it’s all good now so long as a price is shown against them.
It can of course be high to start and dropped under negotiation or a simple flat figure, but sales have never been an ‘offers’ or auction.

Realistically only Z4 plates will sell well on a narrow forum. I have several, all 5 digit and took ages of national searching and waiting on DVLA releases to get them. They’re worth a fair bit but on here a few £’s

i've seen a lot of Irish plates with a Z in the middle followed by a 4, but there is also DJ Z4 on an E89 in Swansea I regularly see.

What numbers have you got, just out of interest ?

Irish plates are the cheapest way to hide a vehicles age and IMHO look a bit tacky. It's standard for the third letter to be a Z so 10% of those will have a 4 as the first digit. They start at £89 online including tax and the first site I checked had over 1,000 of them. Not for me, but each to their own

I have all the family initials on 5 digit plates so my old Zed had E5 CMW, F Type S2 PJW, etc. Meaningless to many people but they are short, non year and avoid being car specific which makes them obsolete when you sell

Ah.. I misunderstood that. I thought you were saying you had 5 Irish plates with Z4 in them. I have G5 ARJ myself. My year of birth (65) plus my initials, (plus a host of other plates I seem to have accumulated !).

Hi,
Thank you for starting this thread and please could you include my plate?
I have S80 CPR on a retention certificate from when I owned a Cooper S. So if anyone has the surname Cooper or owns a cooper S I would be happy to sell it for £300.

It's on the the old Scooby at the moment which has been really useful, it looks like a dirty old farmers wagon but it's bit of a Q car as well :)
