Private plate transfer from retention

Hi, got a private plate on retention with a V778W form. I'm buying a car private, what's the fastest way of getting the plate onto the car?

Can I send the V778W off with the V5C with my details under new keeper?

That should be possible but the DVLA can confirm. I know you can apply to have the plate applied whilst awaiting the V5 by completing another form so can't see why not.
 
Yeah on the V778W it said I can use the new keeper slip and a V62 form (application for V5), it said this can take up to 8 weeks. If that's the case It would be quicker to wait for v5 to come back in my name and then send v5 off with V778W.

I'm hoping to send V778W with the v5 in other guys name we me as new keeper, can anyone confirm this is ok?thanks
