Private Plate Queries

Hello all.

I have been considering a private plate for quite a while, and have seen a few which are a variation on a theme. Basically the prefix style E* ***, (Letter E, a number then 3 letters).

However, these aren't available on the dvla site, but show up on plenty of other sites such as carreg, reg transfers, etc etc which shows these plates as available?. what I don't understand is that if these are available it would come up on the dvla site?

anybody had any experience of this?

Dvla only sell the plates they have,the sites you mentioned can get the plates from dvla and other sources but at a price.
 
this is what i find confusing. about 6-8 different companies show the plate as available, but DVLA doesnt? so where do those 6-8 companies get the plate from?
 
These other companies buy the plates off the DVLA and then sell them on at a profit. It's the same as if you bought one from the DVLA, it's yours then, if you want to sell it on for a profit then so be it. If more than one company is showing a plate available then it's probably one company with many trading names.

Be careful with these companies though as I found once I had registered my interest in a plate the price started to creep up...
 
As said above they normally buy them off private buyers who they try to push down on the price then sell them on at a profit a big profit :thumbsdown: thing is they also advertise plates that are still available on the DVLA site so they do not even own the plate :thumbsdown: but when they agree a rip off price with you they then buy from DVLA at a fraction of the cost they will charge you.

Remember my plate i had bought still being advertised on these sites even after it had been on my car for nearly two months :thumbsdown:
 
I bought one of dvla for our other car and saw it advertised on newreg website,emailed them and asked them to remove it,which they did.

About prices,as you might have seen I was bidding on a plate in dvla's auction,which saw regtransfers can get it for me as well! I emailed them and they got back to me that they can secure the plate for me for £3000 !!!!

It sold in auction for £750,which I think after paying all charges would have been £1100 ish.
 
Got my plate from reg transfers, they did a grat job. I paid the price they had on their site pluss the £80 transfer fee and they did all the transfer work for me FOC. :thumbsup:
I could not find the plate on any other site as most are.

DVLA only sell new reg's

I also purchashed my plate from reg transfers , which was a pleasure to deal with and they negotiated a better price for me with the seller.

If a number of these different agents have the same plate and there is demand then yes the seller will try and get the best price for the plate, it's not rocket science. :D
 
My 'E' prefix plate, bought from the DVLA web site several weeks ago and now assigned to my car, is still for sale on one of the agencies!

They also stich you up for a set of plates for £30 with their name etc. The BMW main dealer only charged me £20. :thumbsdown:

Probably what they said when I wanted my first choice " it was sold seconds before you pressed BUY" :thumbsdown:

I should have said, they even show the Cert of entitlement V750 with the with their name and a "Your name will be added here" scribled on!
